Yeah, smells like rubber in my house. It's sexy!

Just took off my winter tires and got them mounted! Pics to come!

The Falkens aren't really in the same class as the other two, but they will last much longer. I don't think the Z1s nor the NT05s will suit 300 miles/week very well, because that means they will only last 7 months or so, and that's not including wear from autocrossing. If the NT05 tread depth has a large effect on longevity, then it will be even worse. I think people are being fooled a little by the cheaper price of the Nittos and not considering the lifespan of such a short tread depth. I guess we'll find out from folks after 6 months or so.

I had the RT-615s, and they were great for my purposes. I did track them some (they were ok), and I tried autox (horrible after being used to 285 V710s) as well as drag. They worked fine for them all, but they are not competitive in STU. I now have 255/40-17 Z1 *s on the stock MR rims, and they are great, but now my commute is also 300+ miles/week after moving, so I may not be able to go with them next time.

Yeah, that's what I found out first hand when I got them. Like I stated previously, I wish I would have done a bit more research, but no biggie. Live and learn.

Initial impressions of them are really good though! They feel more responsive than my star specs did, but this is very limited driving so far.

More of a review to come soon...

I think its even itself out. All around from what I have seen and people I have talked to the NT05 is indeed faster than the Z1 or RE01R. Although yes they come at 7.2 32nds tread depth they are also $150 cheaper than the Z1's almost. Cheaper price, better performance, about 4-5k miles less. For me my evo doesn't even get driven enough to wear my current RE01R's out in almost two years. Btw I have some new NT05's for sale if anybody wants them

Star Spec is more of a street tire... NT05 is more of a race tire... What are you looking for?

Quote from PopularHotRoddings review:

"Let me tell you, this rubber is super grippy to the touch. I simply can’t tell the difference between the rubber on the NT05 and the NT01. If you’re squeamish about treadwear ratings, and prefer to change your tires when the sidewalls crack from dry rot, this ain’t your tire. If you demand max grip and you’re tired of your existing baloneys letting you down after spending thousands on suspension parts, brakes, and lightweight wheels, your train has arrived. Tires are like insurance—when you hammer the brake pedal to avoid the accident ahead of you on the highway, you’re hardly going to care that you need to replace them every three years instead of every five. You need grip, and you need it now."

Getting my tw200 275/35/18 NT05's this week - cannot wait to have semi-gumballs again throwing rocks into my fenderwells like when it was new wearing tw160 Advans and replace them again in 20-25k miles! $250.00 each so freakin what? I live and drive on mountain roads with on camber turns on daily basis w/guaranteed NO RAIN for the next 6-7 months...California.

If I commuted/drag raced an Evo in Houston, Dallas, Detroit, NY, FL I would NOT rock Nt05's....Id have utqg300-400 all seasons since its so flat and rainy and replace them every 3-4 years.

i've always run RT-615's since the stock Advans wore out. great tires, but i think my next set will be NT05's as well. I wanted to try the Star Specs when i bought the current set of 615's but i needed tires ASAP, and nobody had the star specs in stock at the time. also 255/40/17 is the perfect size for me. the stock size is too skinny, and the 255's don't rub at all. my car is lowered probably 2" all around on buddy club racing specs and i've never had any problems with rubbing.

Um, it doesn't rain that much here in Dallas. Maybe a couple days a month?

No way I'm putting all seasons on the Evo. NT-05's were bought last week (but not on yet) to replace my beat up star specs.

star specs warm up exteremly fast, great street tire but wear out pretty fast...
i've used the starspecs and 615's and would take the starspecs over the 615 if it comes to performance.
but can't say anything about the NT05's... wouldnt mind trying those out.

With the less 6-7/32" tread depth of the NT05; what's the estimate of street miles?

I know the stock Advan seemed to average in the 20k range with some aggressive driving but come with more tread depth.

I've been waiting for a Z1 vs NT05 vs AD08 vs RE11 comparo........

stock advans 20k miles? Not on my X. I got 6300 before I went to star specs. I'm at 15k now and the star specs are done. NT-05's going on next.

Of course, these tires see track and autox use. And North Texas roads are concrete, so they eat more tire.

The X comes with a different stock advan though. It's the A13 or something?

The VIII-IX come with AD046's.

And yeah, some people use them much much faster obviously. I'm on my 3rd set; plus 2 sets of r-comps on my car with just under 20k. I tracked the first set raw; then used others as rains since. I'm trying to ask for the average street mileage here. Just trying to do an apples-to-apples as best I can.
