rusted coilovers? usable?

hey guys

I was wondering if it's safe to put on rusted coilovers. It seems to have rust only on the surface. It's not everywhere but it's in many spots.

Useable, probably. Adjustable, maybe.

i would have to see how much rust, but any rust at all means that it is starting to eat at metal and the coilovers are slowly loosing some rigidity.

my best recommendation would be to just save some money and either get a used set in good condition off this forum, or a brand new set. Especially if you are going to track your car.

my car is just a daily driver. there are some spirited driving one in a while but nothing hardcore.

the coilovers have around 6k miles.

This is very normal for coilovers. I had KW,HKS, Apex, Tein, and few other cheaper brands and all of them rust around the shock after about 10k of miles. Just keep and eye on it..

my buddy clubs started rusting out after about a year on my previous wrx...they still ride like the day i bought them, but popping the hood and eye candy is out of the question. i thought higher end coils had corrosion protection like the expensive teins, no?

although i drove mine all throughout the year here in chicago, i should've probably swapped them out.
