I plan on using the stock wheels with either a set of conti extreme contacts or a dedicated winter set. I want something good in the snow as I think we're gonna get hit hard this upcoming winter. The conti extremes are rated good for the snow...but still worry me a bit being an all-season. I'm starting to lean towards a dedicated snow. I still have a few more weeks to decide. I thought about getting a wheel set as well, but I'd rather upgrade to a nice set of ralliart wheels or similar for the summer now.

I presume that comes from a data 'bot on the web page. On most specs page, you'll see tires listed as "235/45HR17 94H" (LM22) or "235/45VR17 94V" (M3). The HR/VR nomenclature is obsolete.

The specs page for the AVS Winter lists "235/45R17 94H", which is the technically correct nomenclature.

The 94H is the rating. So, yes, the AVS Winter is H-rated.
The tirerack web page specifically states "R speed rated" as the speed rating.

On the comparison lists and summary page.

But if you look on the specs page, (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.j...del=AVS+Winter) it's listed as "235/45R17 94H".

If you look up most tires on their specs pages, they're listed as, say, "235/45HR17". In this format, the "H" is the speed rating (210kph), and the "R" mean "radial" construction, not "R" speed rating (170kph). The new format rating, e.g., "94H", is also listed. (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete...eral/speed.htm)

I'm guessing that the site data 'bot takes the older data from the tire spec (HR,VR, etc). The AVS Winter specs aren't in that format.

Pages that deal with a lot of bulk data often have a glitch here and there. (In any two lines of code, there's a bug in one of them.)

AVS Winter has a load rating of 94, and a speed rating of "H".

And, yes, they're radial tires.
