Exclamation tire cracking question?? somebody please help

I just purchased this evo 8 and it has some summer tires on it but the car was sitting for alittle bit and it started to dry rot and crack the tires.. and they are like almost brand new tread

My question is it safe to drive on these at higher speeds, or any speed at all for that matter? i really dont wanna blow a tire and go into the gaurdrail or worse

Not a good idea to run on those for any amount of time. Means the tire's oils have dried up and its basically breaking down/dry rotting. Great article on this here Rubber Cracking

i would not drive on anything with dry rot. save yourself an accident and just get some new tires.

A month ago my spouse was about to leave on a road trip so I was servicing and checking her car. The tires had 13,000 miles on them and were just starting to show wear. They were also cracking and had to be replaced before her trip. This was a well known American brand. It happens.

Like everyone else has said, its probably best to just replace them and play it safe.

My personal tire choices are:
Summer - Sumitomo HTRZ III
Winter - Hankook W300 Icebear

It would be a great idea to check the DOT# of the tire... Most tire manufactures do not recommend driving on anything older than 6 years. I work for Bridgestone Firestone (BSRO)... The last four digits should tell you the week and year the tire was made.. Dry rot is very very very common.. some cases are worse than others, cracking in between the grooves of you tread are common, but once you start seeing it in your sidewalls its time to change them.. i do not drive on anything older than 3 to 4 years depending on the brand... If your looking for good tires:

Summer: Bridgestone Pontenza RE-11 (next tires i will purchase in the summer)

Winter: (pure snow tire) Bridgestone Blizzaks WS60 (Nothing better on the market)

All Season: Bridgestone Potenza Pole Position 960AS (I had these on my last car) cannot go wrong with these

hope this helps

I do too. lol

People need to understand there is a difference in superficial surface cracking and dry rot. There is a major difference.

Any Blizzak is a good tire. I run the LM 25v's. I personally do not like symmetrical tires, no option on flipping around for more life.
