Break issues

I've had a high pitch squel coming from the lower part of my car for some time. The higher the speed the higher the pitch. I checked and never saw anything so i keep trucking. While driving home today i had to stop short and I heard a god awful, load noise..The kinda breaks make when the pads are worn out.. The pedal felt like i had enguaged ABS(goes to the floor and vibrates, and the rear tires locked up.... I couldn't replicate the noise every time, but i could get the rear tires to lock up and slide alittle....
Anybody have a suggestion on whats wrong....car has 28k on it.

load noise or loud noise? coming from where, a specific wheel location or just from under the car in general. Have you taken off any of the tires and peeked in the side of the caliper to see how much wear you have left on your pads? Also, take a look at the brake fluid and see if it is at a good level and looks clean. If there was pedal play and you could feel the ABS kicking in than it is a brake problem, but try and narrow it down to a specific wheel, if you cant, than its a problem with the hydraulics. Any leaks in the lines?

I would personally check out each brake pad on both sides of the rotors and bleed your lines.. plus put some antisqueal on the back of your pads.

Right, rear is the location of the noise. And it was loud noise, like a sqreatch...if you ever been a car where the pads were toast that what is sounds like. if it happened all the time i would say break pads, but i'll check out the wear..
possibilities of the rotors being warped?

The sound you heard before was the crickets on the rear pads telling you they needed replacement. The sound you hear now is metal to metal contact. The friction material on your rear brake pads is gone.

pull the wheels, look at the pads. that is what is most likely. warped rotor would lead to uneven braking but probably not a squeal. A locked caliper is possible, i would bleed the lines and refill the fluid just to be safe. It sounds like new pads are in order.
