Complete Myth on the rebuild "need"
PS most others "can" be rebuilt but their importers don't stock parts and no one is trained how to do it.

We can rebuild/revalve the Ohlins at our shop (we have a full Ohlins authorized service center with shock dyno's, vacuum bleeder, 2 trained Ohlins techs and ALL factory tools). Here is a picture of one of our rigs that travels to the ALMS / Grand Am races - fully equipped with all of the above

Choosing a shop that is capable and knowledgeable is paramount when buying something as important as suspension. Knowing the product helps us better understand a customers needs. Keep that in mind, Ohlins is not the cheapest but nobody else offers that kind of individual service.

That is usually on the case when you are referring to second rate JDM coilover offerings. They are usually of the "throw-away" variety. It becomes a very different game when you are talking about Moton, Ohlins, Penske, etc,.

A new option for a coil over is Omni power they are height adjustable and all aluminum construction Coil Over. Omni power EVO 8 spring rates are 10k front and 8k rear spring rate. The EVO 8 Omni power coils come with upper pillow ball mounts included. the shocks are non adjustable, but the quality is 10 fold over the tein basics. Here is a picture

cost $780 on them and we have two sets here

I'll chime in! I run RRE JIC FLTA2 (novice road course racer and frequent autocrosser). These coilovers handle as good as it gets. But, if your a sissy like me and like to complain (and dump John emails asking how you can have your cake and eat it too) they're not for you. With a setup designed for R-compound tires and road racing, well, it rides like poop on my Pennsylvania roads. Not much worse than stock, but certainly not better. I even contemplated selling them for MR Billsteins or $2300 Ohlins. Ultimately, I decided that I needed to suck it up because I purchased an Evolution to go really fast, not drink coffee on the way to work. And worst case scenario is I'll drive a "normal" car when I want to take friends, or god-forbid a women, out. So, stick with the stock shocks and get a set of camber plates if you want a decent ride. It's really a waste of money to buy coilovers if you don't want to get the most out of road racing or autocrossing. And if you want to go fast is get your RRE JICs and seat time.

Or you can order the street version of that suspension, instead of the 'aggressive road racing set-up' that JD requested. The most consistent problem I have when selling/servicing/tuning these components is people not being 100% honest when answering the questions on my suspension order form.

Actually, the advice I would give you guys is too make sure you make the vendor you buy your "stuff" from a really hard time. Make sure to tell them you want to make 700whp; and then call them up later and complain about idle problems and a narrow powerband. Then call them up and tell them you want to out-handle a GT3 Cup Car; and then call them up later and complain that it rides really harsh. That's my motto!

ZEAL definitely makes some high quality products.

These are for our s13 drift car for next year. My silent partner Cookie from YOnka's (NY) will pilot this beast with over 400whp, but you have to have mroe than stock to handle it..................he now wants this same set up for his EVO ,and guess what?..its available.........

my driving sucks.

Look at my co-driver Mark Watson in the slush series. He normally drives a '95 ESP mustang.

round #1
me #2, mark #3

round #2
me #3, mark #4

round #3
me #4, mark #2 <- mark is getting the feel for the EVO now

round #4
me #4, mark #1 <- win #1 for Mark in my car. 1st through 4th covered in less than a 10/th of a second!

round #5
me #3, mark #1 <- win #2 done with a broken rear swaybar mount too..

So yeah, I do continue to "bash" JIC's along with my own driving

Mark and I have achieved this performance on rock-hard year-old vicroracers that were

A) Free (that's why mark is driving my car)
b) worn down to the wear bars when I got them.

Can you do the same on JIC's? Who knows. right now my EVO is the only one running ESP. No one else driving an EVO that I have seen at my regional events has coilovers installed yet . Joe250 used to have his EVO, but he is taking a break this year and sold his red beast. I was so looking forward to competing against him this year, because his car was the measure against my own.

Oh yeah, I met another former WRX owner (he now drives an EVO RS) who used to have JIC's installed. He like everyone else I met, got rid of them within a year.

It should be interesting for next season. We have several very good drivers that may or may not compete in ESP next year. So we shall see if I can improve my driving enough to stay competitive.

hey razorlab, was that you driving the yellow EVO #71 in SM?

With the TEIN FLEX coilovers,

1. can they go STIFFER than the stock setup stiffness?
2. will I need to buy camber plates separatley to fix camber?

1. I have the SS and they are stiffer than stock (Flex is even stiffer than the SS)
2. Tein Flex's come with pillow ball upper mount with adjustable camber plates.

im trying to figure out which coilovers to put on.... i live in NYC so roads are garbage. i like to drive agressivly and would sacrifice comfort for performance but im worried about damaging suspension parts by hitting pot holes. I plan on taking the car to track days aswell, however this will most definatly be a daily driver. What setup is best for my needs because i need to be able to have flexabliity in terms of adjusting for the winter season.

looking at zeals and rre (john tunned) jic's....

any comments would be appreciated.
