Steve evo,
don't just ask me, look at these quotes from our peers found at socalevo.net

The power is good but without John @ Road Race Engineering's JIC "MAGIC" setup the confidance to go from a first lap @ 2:30 to a fastest lap of 2:03..within 2 trackdays would have been IMPOSIBLE!!! If you want your EVO to do anything you ask it to on the racing edge..."DON'T PASS GO" GO DIRECTLY TO RRE

rofl the JIC RRE set up is a must
Quote: rummble (second day at T-hill) fastest "stock" evo other than Waynes slicks(worth 4 seconds a lap at T-hill)and within 0.5 seconds of a great driver with lots of experiance at this track (means the JIC/RRE setup is worth the same as adding slicks to the mix)
Both of our chassis are set up by John at RRE

I think to really appreciate the RRE setup you need to go to the track with your stock suspension first to see how it handles

Went to RRE today and got my suspension dialed in with a anti-sway bar by John, and all I can say is the car is ****ing amazing. The way the car handles and turns compared to stock is like night and day. The car is like butter and the *** swings around perfectly and NO MORE UNDERSTEER!!!!!! I recomend this mod to everyone who either cant afford the RRE JIC or wants the most out of their stock suspension. Thanks to John and Josh for doing a great job on my car.
Notice any common threads here.... Serious, my car handles like something else now. You have to experience a car whose suspension has been tuned by John Mueller at RRE.
The fact that they were working on my car at 2:05 AM in the morning to get my car dialed when they were going to willow springs 5 hours later and entering the evo scc evo challenge says it all. Nice to see a "real" business that actually stands behind what they do.
Thank you very much!

finally I'm not a better driver than Wayne or many others in the speedventures "pod" but the JIC/RRE setup and the CONFIDANCE you get from a car that will do ANYTHING you ask it to do(within the laws of physics) = seconds not tenths at any racetrack...I have two absolutes...best power/dollar = Buschur Racing...best control for the power you have =JIC/RRE. (and we all know how much power without control is worth...) Spend your mod $$'s anyway you want, but when we meet on a race track don't ***** that I brought a AK47 to a knife fight :-)

JIC are a good coilover but I've noticed some of the guys how had them tuned end up wondering about what happened to ride quality. Having a killer coilover on the track is one thing but having one also for the street also is a tall order to fill. I feel it is better to compromise alittle on both. Besides most people won't be racing their EVO's every weekend. That is why I feel there are better coilovers suited for street/track use than JIC. HKS was mentioned and they have both straight track coilovers and compromise coilovers you can get from them. Having a choice is nice. CUSCO has good options also as does Zeal and Tein.
John can tune them anyway you want...plush AKAbetter ride than the stock suspension...but although still faster than stock slower than a more agressive setup... my track setup with ZERO concessions for streetability is 2" lower overall with full stock travel and only slightly harsher than the stock setup (most noticed under 25 mph...). I could have gone softer but I felt that I wanted to see what the worst my car would ride and then step back if needed...I don't think it's needed...
My 2 cents: ride quality is very much "subjective".
The enthusiastic trackies will insist their coilovers are "not that much harsher than stock", whereas the street guys will pick up the harshness easily.
I'm still in the school of thought that says, there's give and take between comfort and performance.
FWIW my coilovers give a more 'smoothed out' ride, but it is HARD on bumps, even on the softest settting. On hardest, there simply is no comparison: coilovers are MUCH harder than stock.
EDIT: Whoops I forgot to mention what coilovers I have: Ohlins PCV. Front 10kg/m spring, rear 8kg/m spring.
Ride height is VERY aggressively low, a millimeter or two of the tire is inside the fenders.
And for the record, I am a TRACK person, I try to track once a month. Have yet to track the Ohlins 'seriously' though, will do so this coming weekend.

To those who think that a proper coilover setup does not need to be tuned, I have two words for you.
Corner Weighting.
To get the most out of any coilover set they should be properly corner weighted (like RRE or any good shop will do) with either you, or an equivalent weight to you in the divers seat. Our cars are the same, yet not exactly the same. The coil-overs need to be proper tuned and balanced (Ride height and spring pre-load) to a particular car to function at their best. That is one of the reasons that RRE's JIC systems seem so hooked up. They take the time to properly set up and tune them.
A new set of ohlins out of the box might be all that, but unless you properly corner weight the car, you are losing performance, no matter how good they are to start with. So unless you have the knowledge and tools to tune and corner weight your car. Saying you have tried set A, and set B in your car and set A sucked is assinine.

Most JDM suspension manufacturers such as Cusco, TEIN, GAB, Zeal, Kg/mm, Ohlin, and etc all can offer custom spring rates to meet customers demand. Whats the big deal? if you want something softer or stiffer, just ask the vendors about it!
It can be done, but takes TIME!

There it is not fair to compare the JICs (magically set up or not) or Cusco coilovers to Ohlins. We've proven what they can do at One Lap of America, against factory backed Porsches and Vipers (driven by pro drivers). They are in a class by themselves. Some people will still argue otherwise and that is their perogative.

Do you plan on offering custom tuned Ohlins just like RRE's JIC?
