Stock tires + rain...

Honestly what the hell? Everytime I mess around anywhere in the slightest wet weather the grip goes to ****. Any recommendations for something a little better at all around travel.

I have driven the stock tires quite a bit in the rain and was pretty impressed.

I just got back from a run in Arkansas where it rained most of Saturday and I had no problem at all, actually I thought that the A046's were really good in the rain, and it was a torential downpour at times. They were some of the most competent tires that I have ever been on in the rain.

did you try slowing down? i know they don't like standing water too much. try driving with half the tread, then get back to me.

I drove home in the pouring rain this evening.

I was messing around on the backroad I take sometimes, and it was an effort to get it to drift. I was like," Damn, These tires are holding up better than expected". I have 11k on them and think they perform well in various conditions.

Maybe you need to fool with your pressure. I run 32 in the front and 30 in the rear. It seems to be a good all around setting for me.

I thought these tires handle pretty good in the wet from my last track experince...

I've used Toyo RA1 as my rain tire on the track and they are pretty good.

The Michelin Pilot Sport came with my M3 are pretty decent wet tire IMO.

Just got in from 57degF and deluge. Handling was adequate, but not spectacular.

In "normal" rain (wipers can keep up), the A046s are pretty good, for a max performance tire. They go off a bit in monsoon conditions -- but then, what tire doesn't?

But if you want to drive through the FL monsoons (they only last an hour, anyway) , you might want to try Bridgestone S03 Pole Positions. They won't have the dry grip of the A046s, and they won't run flat out in the wet, but the wet handling is a bit better than the A046s.

After all, the A046 is part of the racing tire line, from the old A008 through the A032. I'd guess you'd call these an "intermediate" tire (for those following the F1 tire arena: "slicks"/"intermediates"/"extremes").

The question to ask....

Was it a COLD rain? As in, outside temp under 40F? In those conditions the Advans suck *** because it is impossible for them to warm up and they remain hard and not sticky at all. In a warm rain they work fine.

Hit it on the head here. If it was cold, that was the reason your traction sucked. I've had awesome performance in the rain with the stock A046's when they were newer and warm out.

I thought about that, but the guy lives in Florida, so I thought that would be unlikely
