can the camber be changed during alignment?

I am wearing the insides of my tires (all 4) only. The other parts of the tire are in great shape. Took my car to the dealer (who was overbooked that day) for an alignment and they said the the camber on the EVO 8 is not adjustable. They said that if they did the alignment, that would not change the camber. Is this true? I have seen camber kits out there, but most of these are doing what I am trying to avoid by adding more negative camber. This car is my daily driver and I need to get snow tires soon, but don't want to wear brand new tires unevenly. Can anybody help me out here?

Thanks,

Chad.

Im curious about the front camber adjustments also,
i was told it was non adjustable but on an alignment machine for instructions for front camber adjustment on the evo it showed an eccentric with two settings -1 and -2. is this -1 degrees and - 2 degrees?

According to the online service manual (before it became a pay-subscription service), there are two selections for front camber: -1.00 deg and -2.00 deg (plus or minus 0.5 deg).

Sorry about the formatting, but I can't seem to do tables in vBcode.

DGS,

Thanks for the information. It looks like the minimal amount of camber I can have is -1degree. Mine has to be -2degrees now as the insides of the tires are wearing badly. I will take this info with me to the dealer and get it aligned and ask to set camber to -1 degree front and rear. Hopefully, this will prolong tire life somewhat. Thanks again.

Chad.

Gumpy - have your toe checked also. Excessive toe-in can cause exessive wear on the inside edge of the tire.

a good way to tell if the wear is from toe or camber is this...

Rub your fingers along it, if it is a bumpy feel it is usually casue by toe. If it is a smooth feel it is usually the camber.

was a toe problem

Got my car aligned and it was a toe problem. Thanks to 8th sin for the tip. Now off to get all-season's put on this weekend. I would have to say if you just bought an EVO, spend the money and get it aligned. Most are off from the factory. It is cheaper than new tires.

A bit of grave digging here, but not too bad. I finally checked by tires yesterday (21,000 miles). The inside of the front tires are worn to the chord! The car is crazy twitchy, especially at lower speed, which first made me think of a toe problem. Then to see that kind of wear on the tires (really bumpy, uneven tread too) pretty much confirms it. Geez. This thing has to be way out of spec.

Time for new tires anyway. So not that big a deal. Just annoying that it's so far out and was probably like this the day I picked it up. Both sides were worn almost identically.

after all this I notice my own tires after 2000 miles. I seen the typical uneven dirt as I walked up my driveway. I have seen this many times on my GSX. Well I ran my hand along the outside of my tires, sure enough some cupping in action.

BTW how ya doing Tom, I am a link owner and I believe we have a mutual friemd named Bob Friend.

I don't think you should much attention to the -1 and -2 camber indicators. On the alignment rack today, my car was reading -0.6 and -0.7 degrees on the left and right front respectively, with both set to '-2'. We had to add eccentric ('camber') bolts to bring the camber up to -1 degrees.
