Had the same issue with the clunking (and also minor leftside pull) after replacing busted ball joints and shredded end links, just brought this to a good shop to double-check alignment (which was fine when they checked it) and they told me strut mounts (cushions) and that my KYB shocks with less than 3yrs of New England weather were leaking. F-ing BS. Just ordered new Rabestos mounts and cushions and Monroe expert series shocks from Rockauto. $292 shipped. I'm so pissed I wasted money on KYB. Lesson learned.

Same here. I fixed mine by tightening this top strut nut.

also found that my springs are shot and are loose...so investing in some coilovers. They clunk whenever I turn or hit any road crap.

EVO 8 front end clunking RESULT!

I have a Evo 8 RHD JDM with the same front end clunking noise as everyone else (Stock suspension).

The noise turned out to be the sway bar moving sideways (towards the drivers side only) when the wheel was pointing right and hitting the subframe. New bushes fixed the problem

NOTE: I noticed Whiteline suspension sway bars have an oversized sleeve to prevent this happening

The bushes are the "D" shaped ones that go around the sway bar and bolt to the chassis. I have since been advised to add the "lateral locks" as apparently evos are known to have the sway bar move enough to hit the sub frame. You can check this by taking off the left hand front wheel and pushing the sway bar. If it hits and makes a noise, add the lateral locks. Hope this helps

I've been dealing with the clunking for years ( bilstein PSS9, got them brand new) and today I tightened the top nut and also found out those are not reusable, you have to get new ones once they come loose ( I know I know, stupid mistake on my part)
Everything seems to be good now, will report back if the noise comes back, but for now I am enjoying a clunk free ride after many headaches lol

What exactly is your problem? I had a slight clunk I could feel in the pedals, it was only at slow speed or over small bumps. To rule the strut out, I sent it to Bilstein and they serviced the strut, I got it back brand new but the noise was there. To rule out any other problem with the car, I installed stock suspension in the front and the noise was gone, so I knew it was the PSS9 somehow. The problem is I reused the top nuts when I installed new top hats, and you are supposed to get new top nuts, make sure you get them there tight, and you should be good ( assuming you did all the "tests" I did to make absolute sure it's the coilover that's clunking )
