Short Shifter good for road course?

I go to Willow Springs Road course once a month. IS getting a short shifter bad for a road course??????

Or are the benefits only noticable daily driving and on the 1/4?? I am only interested in knowing the +/- of the short shifter on the track!

BTW- I am looking into the Street Customs shifter that a lot of evo guys have installed and said works good, but havent said anything about road course usage.

Link for the shifter

The bushings and shifter does fit out cars... It has been testedhttp://www.street-customs.com/cgi-bi...E:shortshifter

Not sure about road course, but can you give more info about that shifter. At that price, it seems too good to be true. Does it fit EVO VIII w/o any crazy cutting?

Im sure it would help, the faster you can shift the better. Either downshifting before the turn or upshifting out of it faster would be better. Im probally going to see you at willow, did you run the digital racer?

That is mighty inexpensive for a shifter.. Be cautious, You don't want one that is cast or aluminum because it could bend or break easily.

Has anybody tried the Kartboy SS? I'm interested in it. Plus, Kartboy (Tom) is very willing to help with install if you live in So.Cal. In fact, he even offered to help with some other installs I am planning.

Yes the kartboy shifter is amazing on the roadcourse! I would be very very scared of that $30 shifter!! Take off your center console and look at the whole leverage design you will see just how the lever system works then you tell me if you trust that $30 jobber. Kartboy is race engineered and Garry Sheenan Racing (Subaru factory sponsored) Is amoung the top 2 or 3 SCCA road racers in the US!! He uses everything Kartboy sells and is very open about his appreciation for the edge KB gives him

I didnt go with digital racer, i go with redlinetrackevents.com every month...

More info on the shifter

It is made of Billet and the design looks great. There is a review of it under the parts review section and several owners installed it and didnt have to cut anything/ They also said it works great. At 1st they said it didnt work with the stock kob, but they realized they were knuckle heads and got it to screw on. So NO cutting is require.

Picture thnx to sdhotwn

WOW that is a cheep shifter. i can tell you right now i pay a hell of a lot more than 30.00 for the machined parts for our shifter!!!
One thing i see on that shifter is it isnt bent like the factory one. just back. i could see that pushing the knob further away than the one we make.

Tom

PS: anyone know how gary did last weekend?

Another questionable aspect of this shifter is the are that holds the retaining spring is NOT proper! This can definately cause slipping of the shift spring imagine a 4-5 upshift in a 120 MPH sweeper!! Also the unneeded stress on the lever and possibl syncros over time
