nsf knocking
nsf knocking
hi there
recently bought an evo 8,
just wondered if anyone has had a problem with a knocking from which i belive is coming from the front nearside somewhere,is not very loud, can be heard when turning right at low speed on uneven ground
have changed droplinks and the wheel bearing, when the bearing was changed it went away and i thought id sorted it however after 300 miles its back ,ive been to a couple of garages but they cant source the problem
as i say its not very loud just very annoying
other than that ,i think its a fantastic car

the garage says its not the cv joint
i suppose the right decription of the sound is a light rattle
ive had most of it in bits down there and all looks fine
i find it quite hard to replicate the sound when its on axel stands
thanks for your reply much appreciated

Jack one side of the front up first and where you see the strut spray some wd40 onto the the strut piston THE SHINNY PART repeat on the other side if there is still knocking after that then it is either the droplinks or top mounts check the top mounts but 90% of the time it is usually a sticking strut but i am 100% sure the WD40 will free it a common problem over the pond in england due to the rain water working its way into the strut a permant fix would be to strip the strut down and regrease
The clunking sound you say happenning on uneven ground when turning sounds eerily similar to the rear diff, which is common especially if you have a TRE maxx lock rear diff or similar. Have you tried putting in some friction modifier in the rear diff to see if that goes away? It might sound like its coming from the front, but it could just be echoing underneath and making it seem that way, idk. It might be worth a try, its only a few bucks for some redline lsd friction modifier.
