Need to purchase 1 tire, quick question!

Last night I had some great luck and ran over some piece of metal that went right into my tire and made a nice size hole that is too big to be plugged or patched, so I need to purchase a new tire. I know with how picky the evo's transfer case and rear diff are with having tires that are worn different. It seems that if you need to purchase 1 tire everyone always suggest buying 2 so the tread matches. The tires I have on the car now only have maybe 3k-4k miles on them at most. Do I really need to buy 2 tires or should I bet alright with the tread being slightly different? These tires still look brand new. I want to purchase a new tire by the end of the day today so hopefully I can get an answer soon. Thanks.

I was always taught to buy tires in pairs in these type situations, but I seriously don't think 3-4K miles is going to make that much of a difference. You can measure it, but it is going to come down to a few sixteenths of an inch. Different air pressures in tires can make that much or more in difference and that doesn't kill differentials.

Two would be the safest solution, or if we carry the tire you have, we can have it shaved down to match the existing tires tread depth.

Mileage aside, should get the one on the opposite side tread depth measured to see how much it's worn compared to a new tire.

Its good if its not more than 2/32 off from each tire. Get a tread depth meter and measure the tread depth of the other tires. New I think is 10/32 so if the others are 9/32 or even 8/32 you should be ok, otherwise I think Tire rack can shave them to match the other tires. 2 of the same tires wont matter on AWD and our tc is very sensitive. All 4 should match

I thought about that...but I don't think you guys carry the tires I need...Nitto 555s, the regular street tire, 300 tread wear rating...

or you can try and find a local place to shave the tire for you once you get it? But 8/32 v 10/32. 2/32 difference seems to be the standard as far as tolerance.

Oh I know what that is....

It's a piece of Sh*^ that causes you to lose more money

Anyways looks like a bracket that ties from the chassis to the axel area. The one on my xb looks almost like that

If it makes you feel any better, I got two flats on 173 in clinton by the State Police barracks a couple months back. They were both beyond repair and had to settle for a full set to get me back on the road. Followed a month later by a deer attack. It's been a rough couple months for my evo too
