Really, did you just say that. Come on people. Powder coating is not a new thing. Anyone who manages to heat aluminum to a point where the grain structure is compromised in a powder coating operation is a moron.

Regardless of what people say, I will continue to support Rota and will buy their products.

I believe last page rota was cleared as a good/decent company. It's other rims that are not certified we all should worry about. Sometimes depending on the size & rim, you can get the authentic or an authentic rim for the same $$.

In either scenario you can only do what's best for you at the time. If you trust your life in the hands of some wheels, I think it's more valuable then the difference of a real vs fake rim ( depending on manufacturer of course ).

I wouldn't classify rota as a fake rim, but more of a replica at a fraction of the cost. I know they put a lot of R&D into their products and everyone I know who has purchased them are completely happy with them. I had a giant thread on this a month or so ago if you want to read up on the debate on Rotas:

I do believe they are a good replica rim. Also. I mainly wanted to stress that a replica rim and tire set, can equal a used in good condition authentic set of rims.

EX. Person A: buys 18x10.5 +15 enkei rpf1's, great rim, used minty, 11/1200 w/ tires.
Person B: buys BNIB 18x10.+12 MB battles or rota grids for 1100 shipped no tires?

in the end a good authentic used rim, can be cheaper than the new replica. You just might have been scared away by the new rim MSRP.

I'm just glad that my Rota's are put to the same stringent tests and have passed the JWL and VIA certification and some even have TUV certification just as the Weds, Volks, etc.

100% true. powdercoating will decrease strength, this shouldnt even be a debate, its a fact. will it weaken it enough to cause a failure? not likely, but it does increase the odds a substantial amount.

More specifically if the wheels were forged. Cast Aluminum doesn't rely on the same grain structure as forged.

With that being said, there are new powder coating methods so you can bake at low temps ~250F. This should be low enough for Aluminum wheels.

Ok for Evo guys the MAJORITY of us get Rota's and lets face it when someone is knocking imitation wheels here its usually a slight to Rota.

I think the post last page should pretty much shut the conversation down. If you hate that they have replica Volk's and Works then fine thats your opinion and you are entitled to it. But the whole safety/Imitation/Get what you pay for BS should be put to bed.

And I'm sorry but you will NOT find a set of TE-37's for 950 in 18X9.5 +20 (which Ray's doesn't make) or +22 (Which Ray's does make but if they are in good condition they will go minimum for 1600).

I could get Rota Grids and tires for that price and still have change. If you have the money to get the real deal then do it. I still would love to get a set of TE-37's next year because they are classic. My wife will nut up on me because that will be Rota's, Work's and Volks for one car. LOL.

im surprised that no one even hinted at the fact in the video the weights didnt even remotely act the same when they struck the wheels....

on the "fake" wheel it strikes and barely rebounds

and the "real" wheel it stricks ,rebounds and the wheel moves in place when it gets struck.
