Getting tired of changing power steering pumps...... help needed
Getting tired of changing power steering pumps...... help needed
Ok so I am now on my second power steering pump, I have installed another one today as the vendor send me another bad one.. Put it in. bleed it (wheels in the air, pull cam sensor, crank the car 15seconds turn the wheel left-right and full lock on both ends probably 5-6 times.. turn the car on, do left to right again with wheels off the ground, still a crazy whine,) This is correct?
Every time I change the pump its killing me! its a messy job and I hate doing it. I need some advice since I find it weird that I am getting junk pumps (though that is very possible!)
If I pull off the accessory belt, the noise does go away! I used one of those dr stethoscope and I can hear a large noise coming from the pump and the idler pully in the system. I am hearing a whine now when I turn the wheel on the new pump so I will be putting in the last junk pump since it was not making that noise.
Please help I am at my wits end =(

are you using correct fluid?? as per owners manual??
In any case. The whine never gets better??
How I bleed pumps=Fill to top, crank the car, let fluid go down. Fill little more, crank the car. Start the car and right away add fluid if it gets too low. Do not overfill.
Now that you established somewhat correct level, leave the car alone on the ground. Let all the air bleed from the system. The fluid has a lot of air in it now...
Look inside the reservoir you will see tiny bubbles and foamy looking fluid. Wait until the fluid settles down, turn the wheel slightly left to right, It will whine. Let it sit..Turn again. Start turning the steering wheel all the way left to right but do now hit FULL lock.
It should be ok by now. Sometimes little driving helps also.
NEVER MOVE STEERING WHEEL at first start up because system has a lot of air and maybe thats why your blowing through pumps.
Also I never buy aftermarket or rebuilt pumps. Go get a new PUMP at the dealer and you will not have an issue.
PM me if you need more info...

Any more info you can share? Are you certain its just not your belt thats bad? Did you spin and check all the other pulleys to make sure they werent the ones causing the noise? Without more info we dont know if your using the wrong fluid, worn belt, bad idler pulley, etc. What noises are you hearing and when does it happen, all the time or only when cold start up? What was the condition of the orignal fluid from the first pump? you might have a bad steering rack, or a restricted line.

Mitsubishi fluid only

According to the factory manual it says to full lock when cranking...I guess this is a problem

I have gotten 2 pumps from AWD motorsports( 1st one was whining, 2nd one is just as bad) So I guess it is possible that the place I am getting them from is no good, the last one, there was a ton of shaft play, this one still has some. Should there be play in a pump when the belt is off/?
Long Island, oem fluid got it from Mitsubishi (Diamond power steering fluid)
