EVO Suspension Modeling

I thought it would be good to have a single thread where people could contribute weight and size measurements of the various suspension components for modeling purposes. It would also be great if people were to upload solid models of individual pieces or complete assemblies. This will give people a place to start for calculating natural frequencies and suspension travel paths. It will also help figure out where the most weight can be pulled out of the unsprung components in the car.

Please contribute in your posts and I will update the next three posts as appropriate. Thanks.

old thread but... would you be willing to show the math on this? /\

It's been a long time so I can't say exactly at this point.

I would imagine I took 50% of the weight that is partly sprung (control arms, struts, springs, axles, etc.) 100% on stuff that moves at the same rate as the wheel (brakes, hub, tie-rod ends, etc.)

If I recall correctly, I think I also pulled the springs and tossed a scale under the suspension and measured it and it came up very close to the same.

I forgot about this thread, maybe I'll add some info some time soon.

thanks! I did the math from the weights I measured myself and the weights you/others have posted... and I got similar numbers

oh, except for the rear subframe at 21.6lbs, how/why does that come in to play? I'm also leaving out the swaybar weights, the part that's not supported by the frame is probably pretty minimal, no?

endlinks weigh about 0.5 lbs each so pretty minimal is my thought. sway bar weight should be mostly sprung weight.

I think the only issue with the swaybar is the stiction on the bushings affecting the time the bar spends in transit to a set position...other than that it is sprung weight

Subframe weight is just there for the pound pincher guys that get motivated to do a tubular subframe. Same with the swaybar weights, I weighed them and thought I would add it here for informational purposes.

I would say the sway bars are insignifigant in regards to unsprung weight.
