Help! My alignment is all off!

So it all started when I first bought my car back in early '07 ('06 model, Evo Se) and had to replace the steering wheel due to it peeling (common problem?). When they put it back it was off centered to the right a little and somehow they convince me to get it aligned to "correct" the problem at one of their alignment stores so I did and they did a pretty good job convincing me at the time but now that I look at the wheels more and more it's off! Guess they adjust alignment to offset for steering? Anyways my question... Can I self adjust back to original specs? Is the car marked for it?

you sure can not... does the car drive straight with the wheel straight, its not what you see its what the alignment machine sees...

This is what my wheels seem to look like when steering wheel is straight

It's not angled that much but you get the point... I want to straighten the right wheel back.... Is it possible?

Anything is possible. How long as it been since you got the alignment done?

That's as good as the advice they gave him about the steering wheel. That's a band-aid, not a solution. If they'd installed the steering wheel properly, or fixed their mistake, instead of telling him to get an alignment, he wouldn't be in this situation.

I don't believe my wheels are straight to begin with... Both sides move even with this procedure am I correct?

I was going to self adjust by looking at how many marks down and drive? Can I align this way or should I remove steering wheel and put it back in properly? I believe it was a notch or two off to the right... Meaning the car would be factory perfect straight yet steering wheel was turned slightly right

Since I got the car bout 5 years ago... It's been like that and before I didn't mind it but now it's bugging me...

Exactly... The wheel was aligned for the steering wheel to be straight... Which I shouldn't even agree to but I did

Don't feel too bad. Stuff happens. This is why I rarely let anyone touch my vehicles, though.

I'd suggest taking the car to a local shop that specializes in Evos and seeing if they can take care of you.

Maybe it's not the alignment that they adjust but rather the steering linkage?

I have not had my Evo's steering wheel off so I'm not sure if you can just take the wheel off and reposition it, some wheels have even splines and will allow you to do this, some have an index that will only allow the wheel to be put on in one spot. The only way to find out is to take it off and see. the other thing you can do is to do your own alinement, the tools are easy to come by as anyone that tracks their car seriously has them. You can set your wheel strait and adjust the wheels in the opposite manner until they point strait ahead, so toe in one side and toe out the other. This is usually done by breaking the jam nut loose on the tie rod and then rotating the inner tie rod. Ill be doing mine soon so I can take some pics if your still stumped. You can always look on other car forums if you cant find info or pictures here as almost all cars are the same in this manner.

Also if you adjust them the same amount than you should not have to worry about throwing it out of alinement to much. For example if you turn one side out 2 flats (flat sides of the rod, like sides of a nut) than turn the other side 2 flats in and your toe should remain the same. If your wheel cannot be indexed this is what and alinement shop would do.

Got psi, so it's the tie rod that I need to look at? That seems easy enough. I wouldn't mind a few pics of the nut your talking about... Could he adjust something else as well to compensate for steering wheel to be straight?
