Normally when you change wheels and tires, you change the width and keep the diameter the same so it doesn't affect the speedometer much.

Isn't the spare the same diameter as the stock 235/45/17? Running the spare temporarily shouldn't hurt anything unless you went with a taller tire such as 245/45/17 or a taller 18" tire.

235/45/17=25.4"

255/40/17=25.1"
245/45/17=25.7"
235/50/17=26.3"

I would assume the spare is close to 25.4".

So you're saying is that when you alter the width of your tires also affects the height of the rim and tire? I didn't actually know that, my apologies.

My factory rim and tires (235/45/ZR17) measure 24.5" (tires new this morning), my spare (125/70D17) also measures 24.5"

Yeah its sometimes confusing the way tire sizes measure out. I just got those diameters off of tirerack.com looking at specs on a couple tires.

There's a few calculators you can go to. This one is cool since you can compare several sizes:

Also- for those that have theirs towed, be sure to watch the flatbed tow operator. They usually end up jacking up the front bumper if not careful.

If you have larger than stock rolling diameter, you will jack up your transfer case if you drive with the spare on.
