Why carry a spare?
Normally when you change wheels and tires, you change the width and keep the diameter the same so it doesn't affect the speedometer much.
Isn't the spare the same diameter as the stock 235/45/17? Running the spare temporarily shouldn't hurt anything unless you went with a taller tire such as 245/45/17 or a taller 18" tire.

So you're saying is that when you alter the width of your tires also affects the height of the rim and tire? I didn't actually know that, my apologies.
My factory rim and tires (235/45/ZR17) measure 24.5" (tires new this morning), my spare (125/70D17) also measures 24.5"

Also- for those that have theirs towed, be sure to watch the flatbed tow operator. They usually end up jacking up the front bumper if not careful.
