Swaybar Options?

Hey

Just wanted to jump on here and get some opinions on what direction to go with sway bars for daily driving with occasional track time?

My car ended up all apart this winter (transfer case issues) so its a perfect time to fix some of the worn out components on my setup.

I am already changing the lower ball joints, tire rods and suspension bushings. I at least have to replace my sway bar end links up front but wasnt sure if I should mess with the rest of it at all..

Currently my suspension is stock, but only due to funds. I need to replace my shocks soon because of tire wear so I will be looking for ideas for that soon too.

Thanks for any suggestions or advice.

Keep it simple, White line 26mm front, 24mm adjustable in the rear, Bilstein HD's all the way around, every white line bushing you can get, swift R or GT Worxx springs, flip your camber bolt or get camber plates.

If your competing seriously, your burning money on coilovers.

I haven't seen a lot of talk about strut bars lately but the first mod I did to my lancer was a rear strut bar and it totally changed the handling of the car.

I'd say keep it stock, track the car for a bit and once you get a feel for what the car needs relative to your driving style then change what needs to be changed.

Sounds reasonable, I already have the Whiteline under steer correction kit. And I have the suspension bushings on the way. I just wasn't sure how noticeable of an upgrade a sway bar was? Figure while I have it broken down.

I still need to find some end links, any recommendations over OEM?

Stick with Whiteline for the end links.

Don't replace every bushing whiteline offers. Rear lower control arm has spherical bearings at inner and outer joints. Also front lower control arm has a spherical joint in the rear location because that joint needs articulation. The rest are fine to change but the most important would be the rear trailing link bushing. Its probably the easiest bushing on the car to replace and makes quite a big difference.

Good to know

Is W0592 the part number on the rear trailing arm bushing you are talking about?

On the sway bar it depends on how big you go relative to other mods. When I had to replace my OEM sway bar (road hazard issue), I originally had gone with a 24mm adjustable RSB based on feedback that even on medium it "drove like stock." Once installed even with it set to soft on mountain runs the back was definitely more loose than I would have liked. Showed up at the track as well. Went down to a 22mm adjustable and it drives a lot more like it did when stock.

Well, as of right now my car has completely stock suspension. I don't normally track it, but do like to go blast around some of the twisty roads in the valley. I would just like to tone down the understeer a bit, and Im hoping the "roll center correction kit" (not understeer correction kit i said before.. it was early in the morning) will help fix that. I think it would be fun to have some adjustability to it, always like to mess with stuff like that. Do the Whiteline end links have any adjustablilty to them or is the only real adjustment just changing bar diameters?

It might be tempting to replace the fsb if you are already working on the front suspension, but it may not necessarily be one of the best first mods. I replaced my fsb with a tanabe 25.4mm only after I had done other stuff, acd race flah, tre rear diff, etc. So I cant comment on how the car behaves with a fsb on more stock setup. I would say replace your shocks first since you say they are worn and then go from there.

As far as shocks go, just depends on funds. Id say for the price stick with the oem kybs, if you have really rough roads then maybe look at the bilsteins. Either ones paired with a good spring, on a properly setup evo, will be fast on the track.

My set up is 22m whiteline rsway, perrin endlinks, spec-r springs. To me the car stays a lot flatter cornering. The ride is ok, bumpy road is torture. Not the a top of line set up but its a good combo.
