Which way should the arrow on my shims point to?

Hi guys,

I'm replacing my rotors and pads this week with some stoptech stuff and can't remember the orientation of the stock shims.

Which way should the arrow on the shims point? My guess is up, towards the bleeders.

Thanks for the help.

Damon

Stoptech rotors go up. But just for future knowledge, the direction of the "vanes" (inside) dictates which way the rotor turns or which way the slots point. Pay attention to your rotors internals when your putting it on.. If the vanes are straight (usually seen poor quality/ cheap rotors) they can be positioned or pointed either way.

Good input, thanks guys. I did not know that about the rotors, I'll have to take a look when I put them on.

The Evo doesn't come with directional vaned rotors from the factory, they're straight vaned. Most aftermarket rotors for these cars are straight vaned. Some of the highend aftermarket rotors are curved vaned... While these are nice to have, they certainly aren't needed for most applications.
I track my car regulary on straight vaned rotors. To say that they are cheap or of poor quality is making bad assumptions and passing along false information.

Sorry for going OT per the question asked regarding the shims.

I retract my statement about "poor quality" but not cheap. Straight vanes are usually seen on cheaper rotors, sorry to burst your bubble. The OE brembo rotors are great, but far from the best. So it is not "false information" bud..

Why are people discussing rotors? The OP asked about brake pad shims, not rotors

This is incorrect. The arrow should point in the direction that the brake disc rotates when in forward motion - down on the front pads, up on the rears. If you do a search you should find a couple posts quoting the service manual which agree with this (not to mention it's what you'd intuitively expect...)

This has nothing to do with what I said. You are correct. But the vanes DO dictate which way the slots go on the rotor....Also, everything I said was OT and irrelevant to shims. lol

Lol, thought for some reason you might be saying the shims should be oriented differently w/ Stoptech kit
