ok, the prepaid shipping label arrived yesterday via overnight UPS. I dropped the rotors off at UPS in the original box today.

hopefully we'll have some significant progress by the end of next week.

update

Update: Baer called me today to check that I received the prepaid shipping label. I told them I sent the rotors off the day before yesterday. They're going to call me when they get them.

Sorry if this seems insignificant, I just think it's worth noting that THEY CALLED ME to follow up and ensure everything is on-track.

That is a very refreshing surprise in the business world today. Customer service like that is almost non-existant unless it's a corporate account of some type.

Nice to see there is a little pride in one's work left in the world

Then why did they sell parts that were defective or poorly designed?

name one company or business who has never made an error in the service they deliver or had a flaw in product they make or sell. isn't this just common sense?

my point is that every business has to deal with this sooner or later and they're doing everything i would expect them to so far.

i think most people would agree that this is rare these days, regardless of the company or industry.

Not bad if cooled correctly and we roadracers take or Evos way beond the design envelope...(I've added over 100 WHP to mine think about the kenetic energy differance that would generate at the end of every straight!)

Exactly.

I've already had the psuedo warped rotors (caused by the stock pad building up) and changed to ferodo's (which squeal sorta bad) and have turned the rotors twice. once for the pad buildup, and once for them warping from driving in the rain.

Also, my front rotors are mitsubishi, not Brembo.

nah, havent updated anyone yet... ive been so insanely busy with work, etc.

ok, here's a brief rundown which i will expound upon later...

basically, they balanced a set of rotors to a zero balance by using a crankshaft/flywheel balance machine and then overnighted them to me.

i installed the rotors and they still made the steering wheel wobble. it was like 80% better (almost gone, but not).

i called them back and told them what happened and they said they can't think of what else to do.

i dont get it either. it bugs me that this happened because there's no explanation, but i saw and felt it myself. with the stock rotors i can't feel any consistent frequency in the wheel. just slight intermittent vibration from the road's texture.

with the Baer rotors i could feel a definite, consistent pulse that is most prominent from 60 to 80. before they balanced the rotors the wheel would shake my arms. now its smooth enough to not see if you hold the wheel with both hands, but you can still feel it.

they're going to give me a full refund and pay for the shipping of the rotors back to them.

all in all, i can't say enough about their customer service. it's too bad that it didn't work out, those rotors looked sooooo cool.

what's stoptech's story?

Thanks for the update. Sorry it didn't work out.

Like I wrote earlier, thanks for the warning and I will stay away from Baer rotors in the future for my E8.

my personal opinion (based on talking to the engineer) is that the harware holding the two halves together fits too sloppily.

i had an entire conversation about this with him and can credibly say that this was found to be the cause of the imbalance.

they used alignment dowels to center the two pieces perfectly and bolted the hardware on.

i could be wrong, but i doubt the collective clamping force of those 12 bolts is enough to prevent one rotor piece to slightly slide on the other, effectively trashing any benefit realized by using dowels in the first place. the bolts are not chamfered on either side.

conversely, the Eradispeed rotors that I had on my Z28 had "aircraft" (probably really is) hardware. the bolts look like large 3-pronged phillip's screws. They use these in a counter-sunk hole to allow a flush mount, and I'm betting the countersinking's centering properties tighten up the tolerances considerably.

i just got done looking around for other products and I'm really disappointed at the offerings. The Baer product really is a great price for a potentially great product (two pieces, much lighter, great looks, warpage warranty).

the most similar product (Endless 2-piece) is getting pretty pricey for a daily driven rotor and they're hard to get.

i think ill call Baer tmo and see what they think about chamferred holes. i just saw my old LS1 rotors the other night and realized the difference.

anyone out there know of a competitively priced 2-piece stock-size rotor?

There's also Wilwood, but the mounting hardware may be same.
