Suspension bump -> BOOM

Past week or three I have been encountering issue where I hit a pot hole, mismatched driveway lip, or some other sizable road anomaly, the sound telegraphed into the frame is hugely amplified. Bump becomes ->BOOM<- I had struts done on the car about a year ago or less, and the boom does sound similar to when I had a strut fail and had the new Bilstein's installed.

I can' t find any excessive front end bounce, and have also heard a sound like the exhaust hitting the underside of the on medium bumps or any low RPM engine shudders (especially when cold) though I can't find any evidence of that.

May be looking at two different issues.

Any help appreciated.

These kinds of unknown noise complaints are tough to diagnose on a thread

The EVO needs to be put up on the rack or on a driveway on stands & pull all 4 wheels & perform a thorough inspection

Likely a bad bushing or strut mount. Need to do a thorough inspection..

I have the sounds as described. The exhause hanger nearest the rear aluminum subframe hits sometimes. Clearance it slightly and it won't be an issue.
The suspension clunk I suspect is play in the pillow ball. I haven't figured that one out yet.

Put the car on stands and shake each wheel with some force, excessive movement or noise is bad. If its suspension related this will help you figure out which corner and whats wrong.

The ball joint comes as part of the lower control arm. On a high mileage car the lower control arm can be and usually is very difficult to remove.
