Girodisc (rear) clearance issue
Guys & Gals!
Today I've tried to install rear Girodisc 2-piece rotors and... it didn't work There's no clearance and brake pad itself "rubs" connection bolts on aluminum hat.
There are just a few mm but it's iron-on-iron and... I'm not sure it's the way things should work.
Question: What could possibly go wrong? I can of course bore some metal from pad to make the compound shape match the one on the metal basement, but I'm not sure it's a way to go.
Thanks!
Anton
P.S. I've used Performance Friction and Brembo 2-pcs rears and it never was like that

I'll make a picture of the disc hat if required. Tried many pads like Ferodo 25oo, endless CC-RG and original Brembo OEMs. These aren't pad issue for sure.

Did you use the caliper spacers?
The Girodisc system is a direct replacement for the OE disc with the addition of our provided caliper spacers. Our rotor is slightly larger than the OEM rotor at 380mm versus 365mm providing greater braking force and cooling capacity.

Evo 6-9 doesn't use any spacers on the rear, these discs are 100% bolt-on. Or they should be

Thats gotta be a note for a different car. 8/9 rear rotors aren't even 365mm from the factory. Hell, the fronts aren't even that big lol

Found a little something about it in this thread: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...ever-seen.html
Looks like you either need to trim the pad or buy certain ones that are curved according to Girodisc.

Great read! Thank you
Trim won't help as they will scrub either way...
OK, I've made some pictures today.
So this is pad on the disc. There's no clearance on the "bolt" side but lots of pad goes "offsite". It shouldn't work like that
OK, this is actual disc. Text is correct.

OK, so I'm an idiot... Guys, when you buy used stuff make sure you really understand what to do
In a nutshell: what i see is NORMAL. Rear brake pads has to be trimmed with Girodisc 2 pcs rotors.

Anton,
Hello and thank you for getting in touch, our rotors do require the pad backing plate to be machined or ground down to match the arc of the pad material so that it clears our rotor hat and hardware. We include a disclaimer/template with these rotors explaining what needs to be done, I have also attached it to this email in case you missed it in the rotor box. This is necessary because we can’t physically make the hat any smaller due to the size of the parking brake, we need a certain amount of space there for our hardware arrangement.
All of the pads that we sell, our Magic, S/S and the ST43 from Raybestos, all come machined from us so they are plug and play. Ferodo also has a shape that does not need to be modified.
Let me know if you have any other questions, thanks!
