EVO 8 Suspension Changing Time

I am running stock suspension on my 05 Evo8 and the rears have been squeaking real bad in the cold for a few years now. I had been trying to apply lubricant to the shafts but no luck. I suspect it is time that I look at replacing them. I don't know much about suspension other than some basic reading so I am hoping some input would help me make an informed decision.

Goal:
1. I don't want to loose any performance/grip based on OEM.
2. Street car so I don't want to make the ride more rough.
3. I wouldn't mind the option to lower the ride height a little bit but I'm not sure how much I would be comfortable with. Do they make adjustable ride height options so I can play with what I like? I have 245/40/R18 which raised the overall height of my car a little.
4. Budget is under $3k but don't have a desire to unnecessarily spend the budget.

Thanks for any feedback you are willing to offer.

Yiu have 2 options. Bilsteins or a decent set of coilovers. Will run you 1000-1500 unless you want to go high end and get ohlins which i think are about 2200.

So is the Bilsteins B6 & HD a factory change that would re-use the Evo 8 stock springs, all the existing mounting hardware, same clearances, and would still be stock ride height? I think only the MR came with Bilsteins originally so that might be a little upgrade to my OEM Evo VIII but I need to know if other parts will be required.

Are there any other related parts to the change of the shocks/struts to get new along with a new set of Bilsteins since things are worn at 16 yrs age?

Ohlins DFV fits right in line with what you're looking for. Best of the best for your budget.

Does the car make the noise when you bounce the rear bumper? If yes then place the car so that you can get under it. For example, put two wheels on the curb. Have someone bounce the car while you feel for vibration in the suspension. Be careful where you place your hands as you could get pinched in the moving suspension. Replace the offending part.

Only thing I can think of that's maybe gonna have an effect going HD's would be spring from KYB's are different than stock Bils. So lowering you'd look at the Swift Spec MR...at which point total cost means get some FA's or go ***** deep with Ohlins, or what?

I am the same, 17 yr old evo 8, only owner. Time to replace suspension. Don't want to lower too much. Just close to OEM. What are the options? Ohlins or FA510s?

I really like the Ohlins. Great ride and you can make some slight height adjustments to close your wheel gaps. I was able to lower without having to role the fenders. Drawback is the price tag.

I would diagnose exactly where the noise is coming from 1st before you throw parts at the car. Last thing you want to do it is spend money replacing the shocks/struts and then still have the squeak noise!

For what its worth, as someone who works in car repair, I've never heard of squeak noise coming from the struts themselves, its usually a strut mount or bushing somewhere...but hey its your money

In my experience bad struts usually result in leaking oil from shock cylinders and more of a bobbling sound when hitting bumps.

I have a noticeable squeak from my rear area that I believe I have narrowed down to the upper control arm bushings. Just haven’t been willing to mess with it yet.
