Derated handling

I'm running on Sumitomo HTZ all-seasons and Tein S-Tech lowering springs and I've noticed depreciated handling especially when canyon carving and twisty running.

While I've been blaming most of it on the fact that the Sumitomo all-seasons are no where close to as sticky as the Yokohama Advans were, I'm wondering if the springs have hurt my handling as well?

Anyone with springs who's noticed this as well?

Maybe I just need some summer timres back in...

I am interested in this as well, since I want to lower, but I have been hearing bad things about the handling of the s-techs. Maybe I will have to byte the bullet and get some coilovers.

Both parts are causing you problems, no doubt.

I didn't know there were canyons in Ohio....

Don't get me wrong, the lower profile looks sharp and I'm happy from an appearance view that I got them because they look great. But I'm not happy about some of the handling control loss I've experienced.

The Sumitomos are marshmallows compared to the Yoks. I have a set for winter, and it's VERY noticeable. I'm also running the Tanabe's and love the grip and handling.

I got a wheel alignment three weeks after I got the Tein's put on. I restored the settings (camber/toe/etc.) back to stock.

I plan on getting a set of 18s (hopefully Volks) next year, any recommendation on what tires to get?

Toyos, Tanabes, Kumhos, Yokos?

It really should be a crime to put lowering springs on an Evo. The stock shocks are almost perfectly matched to the spring rate of the stock springs, the geometry of the whole setup is as good as it gets. If you change really anything in the suspension that will affect the ride height, spring rate, or dampening... you had better know WTF you are doing.

IE. I wouldn't even put coilovers on the car unless the shock valving and spring rate had been refined considerably over a few months racing the car. Anything less would be an injustice as Mitsubishi has spent more time than that refining the stock setup.

As far as the tires go... well, yea...
