Sorry, I saw in that other link that it was $40. So I was assuming $40 + shipping is more than double the $22 to get this bar. I guess if you prefer the RS one, that's also a cheap option.

Doesn't the RS trunk bar bolt to the back of the trunk whereas this setup bolts to the bottom of the trunk?

No, this bar is mounted in the exact same location as the RS bar. The weld nuts are already welded to the trunk of every EVO (not just RS). You just need to pull the black sticker off each hole, revealing the nuts underneath.

Here's the link for another ebay auction. The seller is autobacs. It's the rear strut bar for a base Lancer (not EVO):

$25 from ebay that's not meant to be there or rs bar that's $39 that's meant to be there.

I don't know.

does it make any difference?

All I could do is, goto home depot, buy a bar, cut it to size and hammer the end and put the screw in it. Will do the same thing at cheaper price, like $3.

I think I'll go do that today.

I mean, that's what this thing is.

When I got the bar, they weren't over-charging for shipping. I think I got the whole thing including shipping for about $10-$12. Personally, I think it looks much nicer and is likely stronger than the OEM RS bar, but that's just my opinion.

Because the non RS Evo wing does the same job that the RS brace does. In addition to downforce the wing provides struture strength to the rear of the car.

Since when does a wing mounted on the trunk lid re-enforce the chasis like the trunk bar?

If that is the case, then I am going to mount one on the roof and hood. I should have a real stiff chasis then.

That is probably one of the most silliest comments I have heard. LOL!

You know, as ridiculous as it sounds, I remember reading in some Mitsubishi propaganda somewhere a statement just like that. I remember looking my EVO over closely the day I bought it, trying to figure out just how the heck they can justify such a silly claim. I decided it must have been a Mitsu marketing person who didn't have a clue what they were saying.

Classic case of posting without thinking.

This is quoted direct from Mitsubishi and makes a wee bit of sense if you think about the trunk lid acting as itself a brace of the rear chassis area that is reinforced again with a stiff carbon piece stretching the length of the trunk.

Major improvement? Hardly. But stiffer? Yes.

When you think about it how does a metal bar in the trunk floor stiffen up a piece of stamped sheet metal significantly? It doesn't, just a small improvement to reduce flex which is why the GSR gets it.

Tie the wing to the rear quarter panels and I might buy it, but on the trunk lid? When my car was rear ended I had the opportunity to feel the weight of the new trunk lid (minus wing and bracketry) before it was installed. It's about as heavy as a pencil. Now, attach that pencil at three points to the car (two of which are hinged), and buffer it all with a half inch of soft rubber. Structural? No freakin' way! It's about as structural as the canvas roof on a soft top convertible.

Now, if they want to claim that the decklid itself is stronger with the wing, I'll buy that. But I don't think it's affecting the chassis.

Just to play devil's advocate and contradict myself... if that trunk is pressed down with ~60lbs of force at 110mph, then maybe the trunk is pressing so hard into the quarter panels (compressing the rubber hard) that there is some slight structural effect..

Here is the one I did a couple of years ago and it didn't cost me that much to make. It is made of 2" rigid conduit tubing. I made one for another member here and he seems to like it.

You can't even see it when you put the cover back.:

Seems like you were trying to be sarcastic, but yes, that would work fine. No one will ever see it anyway - so who cares how it looks. . .

Actually, for only about 10 cents you could buy two bolts, go cut off a 2" diameter tree branch, drill a hole in each end and bolt it in . . . that is probably the cheapest way to go . . .

hmmmm, i remember seeing pics of the rear with the bumper beams off the car, and it clearly shows 2 hollow square tubes, likely running accross the length of the car. the 2 bolting points for the trunk are are on these tubes.
