TTP Tuned 2010 GSR

Yesterday I went down to TTP in Orlando for some ECU tunning. I was very happy with the results.

List of mods in signature.

The improvement may not look like much, but since I installed the Perrin 3-port solenoid the boost was hitting 31psi

Thanks to Scott and TTP my car is more enjoyable and safer to drive.

Kyle brought us his 2010 Phantom Black Evo X in from out of state yesterday. His 3500mi new car came in equipped with a concoction of parts he came up with from his own research online. His goals were to achieve the maximum safe performance available on the parts he had chosen while on the most up to date 2010 rom 55570005.

From the looks of it, Kyle did a decent job selecting the arsenal of parts to be used in his battle for optimizing performance. With an ETS brushed steel intake and pipes kit, Perrin 3 port single boost solenoid to replace the stock dual units, an AMS widemouth downpipe, testpipe and single exit 3" catback exhaust he was well on his journey down a solid path. There was a problem however with installing all of the parts right away however. What Kyle did not realize is that you cannot swap out the 3port single boost control solenoid in place of the stock twin BCS units because with the stock boost maps in the ECU, when used with the single BCS 3port, the duty cycles need to be reduced immediately or the result would be 31+psi, well over the safe limit due to the use of the directly controlled new solenoid over the stock bleeder solenoids.

In the above image you can see the mod setup as he brought the car in with the 3port boost solenoid connected on STOCK OEM mapping. Once we saw boost out of acceptable range, we aborted the baseline run as it was not representative of a setup that was safe to continue testing.

What we did do was access the ECU and reduce boost duty cycles 50% and ran it again. The ignition timing was high in stock form, the boost still peaked out higher than stock at 24.7psi tapering down so it was not a very good representation of a baseline however it was still a guideline to work with. Amazingly at stock mapping outside of boost duty cycles reprogrammed, the air fuel ratio with the current modifications landed itself in an acceptable and strangely linear range which was odd. We are not certain if the set of parts used or if the 55570005 rom mapping was just leaner than a prior year model 52680015, however it seemed to work decently well.

With some changes to the boost curve, ignition timing and fueling, we were able to smooth out the curve and extract a maximum of 355whp with 338tq @ 1.00%CF uncorrected. Up from the 320/309 with the modified parts baseline with 25psi to start with.

We test all of our tunes under real world driving conditions which allows us to gauge quarter mile trap speed and the curves of the boost and whp while shifting through each gear. It is imperative for an optimized tune to test the vehicle under these conditions. This will insure the AFR remains constant after each shift and that the car does not exhibit detonation noise when you grab the next gear and it looks up the ignition timing at the shift point and finds a lookup a number too high to keep detonation at bay and slows the car down. With a few test runs, we we able to raise the mph trapspeed 2-3mph which is performance that will surely be felt in its day to day driving conditions.

55570005 isn't the latest 2010 Evo X GSR rom and yes, the 2010 GSR's have lean-spool enabled which makes the factory rom run about 1 pt leaner than the 2008 GSR's which do not have lean-spool enabled.

And this is the lean spool mapping, the top is the target and the bottom is the correction after lean spool.

I was aware 2010 had lean spool enabled, but havent seen that map. Thanks Sic. That is quite a drastic improvement in AFR target.

And the not so cool thing about it is that it starts at 2812 RPM and ends at 7094 RPM

Ah, never looked at the RPM range on older models
