Power way down

HI guys

Not too sure if this is the right place or should be in the engine section.

A while back i had my ecu re-flashed by mitsubishi as i had an idle problem, when i got the car back it felt a little under powered, but thought it was just in my mind.

How wrong was I.

The car is a totally standard FQ300 SST.

Had a power run done and the results were shocking

195 bhp at the wheels
250 bhp at the fly wheel.

A couple of things that were pointed out is the car does not hold that much boost over 4000 rpm and also the air fuel ratio is way off from 3500 rpm the air fuel ratio dropped to 10:1 but was told that is as low as the machine would read but it has probably dropped lower.

Have you guys seen anything like this before on a totally standard car before

Thanks in advance

Hey

Thanks for the reply just a bit pissed that the power is that far off what they say it has out of the box.

What have you had done to yours to get that sort of power out of it.

How does the transmission hold up with that amount of power.

Here is a copy of the print outs i got from the power run

As you can see the air fuel drops right off and was told it would of gone lower but the sesor would not allow it to go any lower.

Also the way the boost pressure drops off is this right

Thought i would just put a little update on here

Have been in contact with mitsubshi UK over this issue an they are going to have my ecu back again and recheck the mapping on it.

But this does mean being without the car for another 3 weeks.

I think we are now getting to the stage where they might buy the car back off me now and give me a new one

Hmm do you know what version of the factory map you have on it? In the US, we've had multiple factory reflashes. The original map was WAY rich (richer than 10:1), which is similar to what you're seeing. I'm not that surprised by the lower power readings, but they are not absurd - dynos will vary a lot too. For comparison, do you know what other stock evo's dyno at on that specific dyno? A factory reflash may be all it needs to gain another 15-20 hp. In the US, stock X's can dyno anywhere from 220-260 depending on the dyno, so I don't think your car is that far off if it doesn't have the latest reflash.

195 isnt that horrible considering dyno dynamics reads damn low for dynos. I think US dyno dynamics evo x read 210-215. But depends on location, temp, etc...

195whp dyno dynamics through an SST is close to what I would expect. It is only a little bit low.

A nice aftermarket reflash will make a heap more power. Good luck.

Mine stock on Dyno Dynamics read 217, but my unit appeared to be a strong one. Therefore 195 could be about right if weather was hot & humid.

Traditional manuals are a little stronger than SSTs on the dyno.

Just curious, is the FQ300 designation in you sig because it's a special model, or are they all badged that way in the UK? If it is a special model, maybe they re-flashed it with the stock model flash?

All the evos over here are badged up like that

We have the FQ300,330,360 and then the 400.

I have got a feeling they have done something like that, as the technical manager from mitsubishi uk is involved and he has seen the printouts and hasnt said that is the way they are meant to be.

He has just said we need to get the ecu back and have a look at the map and sort it out.
