It appears that any turbo thread with the word "Black" and/or BBX gets alot of attention.

Spool wise, it seems to be 800-900rpm, which is laggy for my taste
Yup, and that was the limit of my car on the stock turbo too. Still, peak power is not at 7000, its higher. I've minorly tweaked the mivec maps but not much, I need some real dyno time to truely tell what will work and what won't. My stock turbo saw 27psi at 3100, this is at 3898 (per the logger), so about 800rpm difference in boost threshold.

The thing is, once you're above 4500 (i.e. any time you're having 'fun') it is hardly slower to spool than the stock turbo, step on gas, kthxbyebye.

FWIW, my BBK on my evo8 made 25psi@3800rpm, so this setup is far from laggy compared to that, it is actually pretty similar. The BBK had a little more life at 3000rpm but not nearly as much above 6500 (unless I was on alky!) My plan for this car is (on pump gas) to have the powerband of my BBK on pump gas (peaked @~380whp on dyno dynamics) but with the peak power of it on alky (420whp dyno dynamics) since power started to fall off around 6500rpm and on the BBX/X it just keeps going up up up!

I wasn't trying to make this into a pissing contest of any sort, I apologize.

The point I was trying to make here is that the BBX is capable of much more, some people may be considering the purchase of a BBX but after coming in to a results thread similar to this one they might base their decision off of a poor example.

Again I apologize for the way I might have come off.

It's cool man, yes I hope to get a lot more out of it in the near future. I have had this plot for a week now and thought a few times about posting it but always decided against it for that very reason. This is just a good example of a sub-par setup With some love, it should come up to par

The BBX is a great turbo.

So far we have had the BBX to 391 whp on our dyno, on pump 91 oct, on a 2008 Evo MR.

Almost breaking 400whp on pump 91 oct on a stock housing turbo is a bit of a holy grail here.

The only other stock appearing turbo to break 400 whp (403whp) on our dyno on pump 91 oct was, surprise, a BBK Full on a very well setup evo 9 at 24.5psi

Bryan,

What turbo do you suggest for the most bang for the buck in a DD street driven vehicle with good spool?

I think the comparison is still a very valid one and shows exactly how the turbo will react when bolted on with pump gas.

Obviously it can be pushed much further, but a full dyno session and better fuel would be needed along with some more bolt on's and cams/springs.

Awesome thread, xPRimNT is currently dialing in my BBX.
Hoping to see 400awhp myself.

I thought the BBX was supposed to be similar to the FP red in terms of whp and torque?
