kidneythief, while some of the guys are trying to save you a few dollars, please don't try to build your own fiberglass enclosure unless you've worked with fiberglass before. It's very hard to make an enclosure the right interior air volume, the right thickness for the walls and the right design so the fiberglass doesn't flex. If you don't have any experience, you're better off leaving it to a professional and spending good money. You'll thank yourself in the end when you have exceptional sound quality.

^I was contemplating this exact dilemma when I checked out the link for the how to. IMO, I think that I wouldn't build it stable enough & have the compression/weight (they're some heavy bastards) from the sub snap the fiberglass. I think I'll stick to having a local shop make them, but the TCCustomz place looks interesting... the only thing is that they're in Canada & I don't really enjoy doing out of the country transactions. Anyone have experience w/them?

I would reccommend that site, and I would think most people are capable of doing fiberglass. If you do decide to do it yourself, just remember a few things. Mix the resin to what the can suggests, and mix in small batches so you can work slow and not have to worry about it curing. Rip the fiberglass, don't cut it. Rip small pieces, as large ones will create problems with folds and air bubbles. If you do get air bubbles, wait a day for it to cure then go through with an exacto knife and cut along the perimiter of the bubble and then you can reglass it after that. 7 layers should be plenty for pretty much any subs. Don't use too much resin because the strength is in the glass not the resin. Be patient and take your time. When you pull the enclosure out to fleece it you can check for large flat areas or gently curved ones and you will want to reinforce those areas. If they are really flat areas then get nylon rope like 3/4" or so and dip it in the resin then put it on the flat areas to create ridges then throw a few more layers of glass over the ropes. It really isn't that hard and will save you money in the long run. If you have any other questions I would gladly help you out!

It's not rocket science. The sub enclosure is the easiest item to do and learn how to use fiberglass. If you got the money, buy it. If you don't, make it yourself. By learning you could build for someone else and charge big bucks.

^^^Agree. I also think that fiberglass is easy to do, but hard to do right, I've seen so many do-it yourselfers that look like blobs on the side of the trunk, thats why I didn't bother doing my own. The company that made the one in the pic (same model i have)you posted is only a state away, bit of a drive, but ya never know. Good luck whichever route you choose, and post up when you're done

Hmm... a state away for you or me? Are they in Cali or Washington? Do you know they're name?

The name is Audio Integrations. I had their fiberglass enclosure in my IX when I had the car. Very high quality and smart guys over there.

They are also a vendor on this site.

I can't remember where they are located, but it's either Washington state or Oregon
