AVIC-D3 on EVO-X
Here is a few pix of the install over the weekend. I think the Metra kit fit just fine
Mine seem flush with no issue, You just have to make sure it pops back in just right
took a few tries, but once you have it in right its looks OEM.

Stock unit does look better, but its 3x the price.
At $699 @ best buy, and under $500 online you cant beat the price for the feature it has.
This unit has full control of my Iphone/Ipod not some cheap RCA jack to iPod hook up like the oem.
Plays Divx files and DVD for the passenger while the car is in motion.

install kit, and the wiring harness for it, The wire harness is just for the basic,
power-turn on-dim,ground ect.. The speaker wire set up on the harness is not for the 9 speaker+Sub, Im not sure if it work for the non SSS because i dont know what the deck looks like on the non SSS.
If you look at my 3rd picture, this is where the OEM AMP was, I ran 4 new speaker
wire to the location, and tap into the car speakers. I dont think anyone know
how to turn the OEM AMP on,Maybe its remote turn on is control by CANbus, who know..
Then you will have to run a new AMP to power your OEM SUB.

Not to discount the work you put in. Looks like you did a good job and knew what you were doing, however,
in this $600 "bargain" vs the $2400 NAV setup
Pluses
A. Cost (debatable when labor and loss of sub, amp, 4 speakers, are factored in)
B. Ipod integration.
Negatives
A. You lost the amp due to the lack of support by the harness.
B. Had to run 4 new speaker wires.
C. Lost 4 speakers due to the lack of support by the harness.
D. The other 4 speakers are now powered by the head unit instead of the amp.
E. Have an aftermarket looking NAV unit that doesn't really match.
F. Have to buy an aftermarket amp if you ever want your sub to come to life again, your four disconnected speakers to work again, and your 4 that are now connected to the head unit to sound better.
G. All this labor and taking your car apart.
I don't know man but $2400 sounds like a steal now for a fully functioning NAV unit with all the speakers, amp, and sub in full effect.
At least until someone makes a harness that will support the complete sound setup as is like the MITSRCVR did for the SSL setup on the prev generation EVOS.

Thanks for the info. The unit looks great and it matches well with the interior. That is one of the reasons I went with this unit also because it has the same interior lights as the stock. Plus, stock is still stock.

I think he is made the right move! In time, I intend to rip the whole lot out of my SSS package. I want a traditional single din Alpine deck, but would run a 4 channel amp, rear bridged to sub, front to good components. The rear doors are filler anyway, and can run off deck power. The factory head's integration is clean, but other than the solid bass, the entire rest of the system subpar sound output. The front stage Rockford speakers aren't good at all IMO.
I think the D3 looks good there...
For those of you talking mess about "the OEM one is better"
GET AN EVO X w/ Navi first...
D3 = 6.5" touch screen display $699.99 + $200.00 Rebate
+ CDBTB200 (Pioneer Bluetooth) + CDR55 (Pioneer remote) + CDI200 (Ipod Cable)
sure does PWN a $2000.00 "Oem Navi" unit anyday....
Add a GEXP10XMT ( XM Radio, Nav Traffic) and a NDBC1 (back up camera) and your under $1000.00 for a FULLY Functional Head Unit.
The OEM Navi, is REALLY nice, don't get me wrong... (I have one) and love it.
But for the guys who have the REGULAR FOSGATE System w/o the Navi, or do not have the Fosgate system, this is a GREAT upgrade. (op didn't have the OEM NAVI)
and is less then 1/2 the cost, with more upgradable features.
