NO NEED FOR THE FACTORY AUX CABLE.

ok guys i did install my cable and i got my iphone playing all my music

COST: 9 bucks

i have the upgraded radio 6 cd changer , i was looking at the connection on the pics

and what i did was super easy.
stoped at radio shack and got a 3.5 mm jack adapter and a 3 foot 3.5 mm male to male cable .

thats the 3.5 jack , i solder 3 wires ( ground , left and right )

from the pic that shows the AUX port cables i connected the ground to the black, and any of the side channels to the purple and blue near the black wire

then drill a little hole anywhere you want , i did mine near the top corner on this pic

top left corner thats where i put my jack.

guess what it works.....

NOW

if you dont have the wires like on the AUX pic you can always add the wires to the back of the plug on the radio

this are the wire you need to add if you dont have them on the plug. black is ground. the purple is left and blue is right.

Thumbs up

First of all I want to thank Gabesir for saving me a bunch of money with his post. I just installed my aux port and I didn't even need to splice any wires. I went to Radio Shack and got the 3.5mm jack for $3.24 , I already had a male to male cable so I didn't need another. My jack was slightly different than the one on his post and has a little nut you can unscrew that allows you to mount it very easily. Basically I soldered 3 wires on the my jack and then inserted those wires into the aux port, making sure it's aligned properly with the right colored wires. That's it, I was able to connect my itouch and listen to music. Below are two pics of the aux port installed, it's really small and hard to see in one of the pics.

Make sure you plugged in your antenna back into the head unit so that you can get reception on your stations.

how do you access aux on an SSL deck? I'm planning on installing something for my ipod similar to this:

http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=1222

I have the SSL package on my '05 EVO but there is no auxiliary button. Someone told me if i hold the CD button down you can access it?? Do I have to install the adapter first?

Do you have to turn the radio way up to listen to your IPOD with this setup? I assume that the dealership supplied cable that I used:

is ampliphied by the big box... no other reason I can see for having that box on the cable... so if your setup is not ampliphied it seems like it would be a pain in the butt turning your radio way up to listen to the ipod...

The dealer installed my factory iPod kit on my Evo X GSR. It was more complicated than I thought it would be, looking at their install instructions. There was the stereo cable, a wiring harness that splices into stereo wiring, and then an extra box that gets installed back there too. This was the factory kit from Mitsubishi -- not an aftermarket kit. In fact, they forgot that extra converter box initially, and it didn't work. 2nd time, they got it right. This works really well now.

Doing some reading on the owners manual i realized the stock stereo does have an aux option by holding down the cd button for like 2 seconds. so i went to the dealer (here in Hawaii) today to pick up the aux cable and to my suprise they want $74. WTF!

anyhow I opted to just use a aux cable from radio shack for like $8 and hack the end and solder them to the aux wires off of the back of the radio.

just finished soldiering a radio shack aux cable to stock radio aux wires. the job was fairly easy, the cable was like $8, and having to buy a soldering iron this turned into a $30 project. Better than spending $74 at the dealer. As for sound quality, about the same as any other mp3 player I have hooked up in the past via aux port.

Excellent thread!!!!

When you switch from the radio to the aux input do you have to turn up the volume with the Radio Shack aux cable? You don't have to make any volume change with the factory cable... that was my only concern doing it with a radio shack cable.

I have been reading through this. So how to hook up a non SSS deck. So the MMCS or no. I have been trying to do some reading on the subject and found a few rays of hope. If I have read things correctly the Austrailian MMCS can get full ipod integration at the dealer. Not the crappy aux line BS. I have to do a bit more searching but I would gladly pay a few bucks to get more than a line in the glove box. That I have to open and close when I want to listen to something else.

You have to buy this Aux cable from the dealer. i think this is the part #MZ360136EX.

Then remove the 18 pin connector from the back of the CD player.
Remove these three wires from the connector. (BLUE,BLACK and PURPLE)

Those three wires are actually the AUX wires connected to the back of the tray compartment under the A/C controls as you can see here.(BLUE,BLACK and PURPLE)

See way at the bottom, there's nothing connected to it because we have the non SSS package or that would be connected to the RCA(RED/WHITE) inputs.
Now that i think of it you can probably find the part number for that tray compartment and see if you can buy the one for the SSS. It might have the RCA inputs built in it and all you'd have to do is connect it to that wire.

This SSS, non-SSS doesn't have these inputs in the tray but has the wire in back of it ready to go.

Now replace those 3 wires from the first picture (BLUE,BLACK and PURPLE) with these wires.

Here's where to put the colors.

lastly here's the how to on removing the dash to get to the CD player.

I haven't yet tried this so i'm not 100% sure this works, but i dont see how it can't.
You think you could re up these pics?

I just want to show-off my installation. I used the aux cable from my E46 M3 and didn't have to splice any wires or anything. I just had to pop out the wires from the connector on the BMW aux cable so they lined up with the aux plug (black, purple blue) already on Evo X base GSR. My notes were:

BMW
Brown - 4 - Outside (GND), Black
Blue - 8 - R, Red
Red - 9 - L, Yellow

On car:
black is ground. the purple is left and blue is right.

Once I had the wires lined up I just used a 3 pins from a DIP break away header (e.g. http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/pro...roducts_id=116) so I could directly mate the two female plugs. Once that was done I ran the wire down the passenger side of the console and dremel'd a hole in the tiny plastic cover (so I could easily remove this mod) for mounting.
