Anyway to hook up an ipod to a non-SSS deck

For those of you that have the base GSR (non-SSS), the deck comes without an AUX input. Is there anyway to hookup an ipod via a cable to the back of the headunit? or any other way?

There is actually a way, but i have yet to try it. I will in the next couple of weeks though

You have to buy this Aux cable from the dealer. i think this is the part #MZ360136EX.

Then remove the 18 pin connector from the back of the CD player.
Remove these three wires from the connector. (BLUE,BLACK and PURPLE)

Those three wires are actually the AUX wires connected to the back of the tray compartment under the A/C controls as you can see here.(BLUE,BLACK and PURPLE)

See way at the bottom, there's nothing connected to it because we have the non SSS package or that would be connected to the RCA(RED/WHITE) inputs.
Now that i think of it you can probably find the part number for that tray compartment and see if you can buy the one for the SSS. It might have the RCA inputs built in it and all you'd have to do is connect it to that wire.

This SSS, non-SSS doesn't have these inputs in the tray but has the wire in back of it ready to go.

Now replace those 3 wires from the first picture (BLUE,BLACK and PURPLE) with these wires.

Here's where to put the colors.

lastly here's the how to on removing the dash to get to the CD player.

I haven't yet tried this so i'm not 100% sure this works, but i dont see how it can't.

I have a radio transmitter similar to this for when I have to use rental cars:

The quality is not the greatest, but at least it charges the iPod.

Again, not the best solution, but if you are saving up money for the aftermarket, it's a good temporary substitute.

Man i tried 3 different radio transmitter and they all sucked. I rather listen to my car rather then the transmitter. They were just all bad quality man. I would never buy a radio transmitter again.

+1

I end up just burning mp3 CD's, atleast it gives you about 130 songs to play with at a time.

I was interested in the ipod cable from mitsubishi. I thought it was something you could buy, and have the dealer install it. Or if you knew how to do it, you could install it your self.

But it seems kind of flawed and complicated. I figured the ipod adapter would just plug into an AUX port in the back of the stereo that all evo's had. It a shame thats its only with the SSS package.

Just buy the unit from the dealer...it is $50 and the cable comes out your glove box. I will warn you that the male end of the cable does not fit into your Iphone or similar unit because it is too big. To get that to work you have to buy an adapter. (radio shack)

If in fact you can put some type of aux cable in the back of the deck, just take it to a Circuit City or Best Buy if you can't do it yourself. You can buy several feet of aux cable for $10 at radioshack & even cheaper online. You might still have to pay for install at a dealer, so why not pay less even if you didn't have to pay the dealer, by going to CC or BB... NO DEALER!

+ a 1000

Waste of money. Cause more frustration and static than they are ever deemed worth.

Are you sure you connected the AM/FM cable back on to your head unit?

Thats cool. What I wanted to know if the dealer would do it. I'd be willing to pay a little extra to keep the warranty and have the dealer be responcible for any other complications

i did a how to on it and have the part # as well. you should look it up on the evo x how to. all you do is order the A/V connector from the SSS package and then cut hole where it should go. In the back of where the A/V goes the connector is already there. Just plug and play
