Factory steering wheel remote kit

Hi all. My GSR came with everything I wanted except that remote control built in to the wheel that lets you control volume and switch songs. I'm thinking about having one installed, so a few questions that I hope someone can help me with:

- I currently have the AWC switch on the left side of my wheel. Will this one be moved or replaced by the remote?
- How much (roughly) do you think this factory remote kit and installation will cost me?
- Does anybody have any pics of it?

Thanks!

antics22 posted a how to, search for it.

i did this install myself, wasn't too bad, hardest part was getting the damn wheel off. i was very paranoid that it would not go back on straight. I took my time and it took me maybe 1-1.5hrs. definitely one of the best mods i have done to my x

the awc controls are moved to the cup holder area, that little cubby hole is where the new switch will be, i dont think the dealer will install this option. since it requires the steering wheel to be taken off, but it doesn't hurt to ask

Thanks. I've been building computers for ten years, but that seems kinda sketchy. I'm very tempted to do it though. My questions are continued in that thread, so thanks.

Why don't you think the dealer would do it?

I never understood why they put the stupid AWC or even Cruise Control buttons the steering wheel.

How often are you flicking between Tarmac/Gravel/Snow ? I am constantly scanning the radio and manning the volume controls. Cruise Control? Okay, maybe good on a steering wheel, but my priority would be Audio Control > Cruise > SAWC

Actually one of my biggest complaints about the X interior, probably really my only complaint.

EDIT**

After reading the link to the bluetooth install, I suppose you could just get the audio switch and install that separately if you really wanted to. Seems like a bunch of work, though. Shoulda been done at the factory.

Amen. Thats my main gripe as well. Since I've switched out of tarmac probably one time over 8k miles. Its tough for me to have to lean up and hit the damn audio controls. This is a mod im interested in as well.

Exactly what I'm saying. I called the dealer I bought my car at today, and they had no clue as to what it would cost to get the parts needed, or to install it. They were really clueless, like "Ummm, are you sure that is possible? We have noo idea how big of a job that is if it's even possible". Clowns. I might have to do this one my self.

Maybe mitsubishi needs to make Evos their own satelite-company. Seems ridiculous how oblivious dealers are as to what relfashes are out or how to even work on the damn thing, at all. I called mine and they, too, had no idea wtf I was asking them. Thats a common trend there.

OK so I called my dealer to order the parts today. He was like "I had my parts specialist look through the entire directory, and there is no such thing as 'Audio Control Kit'." And was like "Well, its just a 'Audio Control Switch', and I have all the part numbers I need right here." Hes like "Oh."
So I give him the numbers to order the parts, and as I do he looks them up. It almost sounds like he was amazed that the parts did in fact exist. He sounded like he had nooo clue what he was doing. Very funny.

But anyways I got the parts ordered, and I'm doing this myself.

My dealer quoted the Audio control unit at $100 and the AWC plug at $45 or so.

audio switch w/ aftermarket HU

I will just add that I already had the audio switch and tried to interface it to my aftermarket HU. I got a PAC adapter. PAC's instructions are for an 08 Lancer and they don't appear to apply to my X with 9-speaker Fosgate system. I broke out the multimeter and tried to find the wire from the switch, but nothing registered. I saw a few CANBUS signals where I thought the wire should have been, so that's not good news. I am not using my switch for the time being. Haha, maybe I should move the AWC switch up to the wheel.

Thank GOD someone else agrees with me.

How often are any of us going to even use the stupid AWC switch?

I get intensely irritated when I go to rent cars like Saturn Auras, Chrysler Sebrings, Hyundai Sonatas and they ALL have steering wheel radio controls.

Mitsubishi...this is unacceptable. I'd say that 99% of Evo X owners will never even SWITCH to anything other than Snow and when they do that, they usually can be bothered to take their hands off the steering wheel for more than 5 seconds to do it.

Put the frickin' radio controls on the steering wheel!

that sux! so right now PACs doesn't make a steering wheel control interface that works with the X's fosgate system?

I want to do this mod, but I also have a pioneer Z2 head unit waiting to go in. But it sounds like I'll have to wait a bit longer for them to figure all this stuff out.
