Fitting aftermarket sub in stock location?
Well the stock sub is DVC .9 ohms each, so in series it is about 1.8ohms. But if you can get a 4ohm DVC at 2ohms, then you might be able to make the stock amp work on it. However, I would bet the stock amp pushes maybe 25-50 watts RMS maximum at 2 ohms. The stock amp is pretty weak...
I think the mounting depth in the stock enclosure is just under 4", maybe 3.75" or so.

My bass is far from ridiculous (and I know what you mean by ridiculous). In fact, with the 150W to each door speaker, my bass is almost weak. I'm running 1 JL 10W6v2 on a 600W Alpine amp. If I had to do over again I would go with a 12W6v2 and a 1000W amp. The thick back seat cushion really deadens the bass. I think you will be hard pressed to get noticeably better bass using the factory subwoofer box. Good luck.
