Non-nav stock stereo questions
Non-nav stock stereo questions
So I just picked up my Evo last week, it's a 2010 GSR, but I have no idea what packages if any it has. It was missing the owners manual as well (anyone know where to find one online?).
It has all the power locks/windows/keyless entry, which I'm assuming are standard. It also has the steering wheel controls as well as bluetooth. From what I've found this is all base model features for a 2010.
What I'm trying to do is figure out what I can do with the stock equipment. The stereo has a button for CD/MP3, can it play MP3 data disks, or is there a way to hookup an MP3 player? I found the AUX jack in the cubby hole, and tried hooking up my android phone to it with a cable I had, but either couldn't figure out how to get the stereo to switch to AUX, or was doing something wrong because I got nothing. It is also a possibility that my cable is bad.
Is there something I'm missing, can I not hook up an MP3 player, or will I just need to get a different unit?
Thanks!

Yeah, if you burn a bunch of MP3s to a CD as data, it will play them.
And if you hook up a phone or MP3 player to the RCA aux-in jacks in the cubby, just press and hold the CD button and the stereo should switch to auxiliary mode.
ETA: There are no digital versions of the owner's manual, just the service manual. You might be able to order one through the Mitsu parts department at your local dealership.

does your headunit have the the "RF" logo on it, or have a 6 disc changer in it? Those play MP3's too I think
If you have a subwoofer in the trunk, then you have the Rockford Fosgate package, which is part of the "SSS" package which includes big wing, HID's and "Sound"
Keyless entry is an option still in 2010 i think. Manual you get from dealership or ebay
And unless the sub is hidden pretty well I don't have that. I know I have the smaller wing (which I like better anyway). So probably don't have the SSS package
No RF logo on the stereo, but I did notice that there are disc up and down arrows on the 5 and 6 buttons, so does that mean I have the 6 disc changer?
I did manage to get the AUX working with my phone, but it is a bit of an awkward solution, maybe I need a smaller cable, but between the cable and my phone being connected it doesn't fit very securely in the cubby hole. More reason to upgrade I guess.
I also noticed a high pitched whining noise while driving that seemed to be tied to the RPMs with the AUX playing. It was fairly quite, but noticeable. Don't know if that's normal or if there's a way to fix that.

If you have a 2010 GSR w/the shorter wing, you probably don't have the 6-disk in-dash CD changer (so ignore the load and disc up/down buttons). If you need to adjust the bass/mid/treble or DSP, I think you just keep pressing in on the right rotary knob to cycle through the settings.
Also, your stereo should have Bluetooth hands-free (no audio streaming) with the control buttons on the steering wheel. This info might help..

The mic is in the map light area, and it's normal for the other person's voice to come out of just the right speaker.

Also if you put a bunch of MP3s to a CD, you can organize them into folders before you burn the CD. Use the right rotary knob to switch folders. Took me a while to figure that one out.
