need to change the stock speakers
While the concept you're citing is 100% right on, stock speakers are extremely sensitive. It's actually difficult to find an aftermarket (non-PA) driver with similar response.
I've changed the speakers with the OEM HU and didn't do much in terms of loudness. Quality maybe but too hard to tell.
If your on a budget. I would go 3way coaxials in the front and 2 way in the rear. Replace the HU with another from Pioneer, Kenwood, JVC or Alpine. the 22wat RMS should be enough from most Head Units (dont forget to disconnect the crappy tweeters in the A-pillar pods).
If want a little more umph, try a set of Alpine or JL components up front and some 2 way coaxials in the rear doors using a Alpine or JL 4 channel amp.
My current setup is Hertz Mille 1600's up front and a 4 channel Alpine PDX-f4 bridge to the components up front (no rear door speakers) and it simply amazing.
