I currently have the escort passport 8500. I love it, has a awesome amount of detection range. It has saved me multiple times well worth the money IMO. I would like to try the newer model for my next one. I have tried like 3 of the whistlers and I had a cobra 9500 I believe is what it is called with voice and everything. They were all piles of junk IMO. The escort has topped them all.

Right now, Cobra Xrs9570

http://www.google.com/products/catal...d=0CIYBEPMCMAM

I used to have a whistler (forgot what model # but it was roughly the same price) and I prefer the cobra. The whistler seemed to miss a lot relevant readings and my Xrs actually saved me from most likely getting a ticket while driving "spiritedly" the other day.

Going to try one of the nicer escorts next.

I've used quite a bit... Passports, Cobra, Valentine, etc..

my favorite: Valentine V1 - $399
2nd favorite: Passport 9500ix - $499

don't go cheap on this.. If you have 100-200$... save it. Those crap never works. You'll be hearing beeps all day. You'll also need to buy new ones every year or so..

Passports / Valentine allow you to download their newest software online. So you never have to buy new hardware. Passport also have a paid app support. When an app user ahead of you detects a cop, it'll be sent to your phone, thus detecting the cop much earlier.

I chose V1 over Passport simply because of design and price.. they perform about the same.. V1 is 100$ cheaper

I had an Escort 8500 for 10 years, and it saved me so many times. The deal, though, is they get fussy from the heat and start doing strange things. I'd get false laser at WOT, get "Self Cal" message when it sat outside in the heat and have to cool it to work, needed a new smart cord because the mute button didn't work anymore, and had to rig the mount internally because the rattle was bugging me. The "Self Cal" in summer was the dealbreaker, so I pulled it and am going to sell it. Escort refreshes these, but I wanted something newer.

My father-in-law got an Escort 9500ix and the jealous grabbed a hold of me. I shopped around for a good deal and found a reasonable one.

I am loving the 9500ix! The range is better than my older (non X50) 8500, it has that GPS false rejection, and you can set it to show your speed all the time. I really like that, because its more accurate that the speedo at higher speeds when you have tire wear, different sized tires, etc. I also hardwired it, and have no clue why I didn't do this to my 8500. It has a database for cameras and warns about those as well.

Anyway, killer detector.

I have the passport 9500ix and I love it. Great range and multiple modes of laser detection. Bought mine off my buddy for 250 so i cought a hell of a deal. I also bought the mount that attaches to your rear view for 80 bucks and hard wired it and hardly anyone ever notices it outside the car.

Amazon Amazon

Here's the site for the mount, and they will email you and ask for the model number of you rear view so its pretty legit.

I've never had a decent one. Anyone have one that has some sort of concealed install? I'd like something that doesn't sit attached to my dash or window.

I've had friends with V1's and 8500's and all said amazing things about them
