Factory RF Issues

What's up everyone.

I have a couple things going on that I thought I would see if anyone else has experienced.

1. When a song with a good amount of bass starts, the bass is loud and full for about 10 seconds and then tapers off to a lower level.
Is this a safety mechanism built into the head unit or amp?

2. The volume knob on the head unit is malfunctioning - basically when you turn up the volume at a normal speed, the volume jumps around randomly and never actually turns up unless you turn it super slow or use the steering wheel control.

Just curious if anyone else experienced/noticed any of this and what you did to fix if there is a fix.

Thanks for any input!

Couple threads about this - most people turn off the auto volume leveling with speed to help out. I don't know how it works on the standard head unit but on my MMCS there's one button to disable the speed based leveling and eq that I used and have never had that problem. Could also be something they fixed in the newer models.

The OEM amp has volume limiting so it doesn't blow the speakers because the amp sucks ***.

The only way to fix the OEM rockford system is to replace the OEM amp. There is NO way to turn this feature off as it is imbedded in the amp's chip.

This in no way has anything to do with the speed variable volume feature that can be turned on and off.

Although depressing, thanks for the definitive answer.
At least I know my go forward steps.

I never said this can be turned on and off with disabling the speed variable option - if you look through the other threads you'll find lots of people find improvement with it turned off "...to help out" If you think about the fact that the volume is going up with speed and the EQ setting can cause it to output higher bass, it seems logical that by keeping the output at the same levels it'd be less noticeable of a change.

I too was unhappy with the RF sound. I tried disabling the SCV on and off. Neither setting helped. I actually like SCV so I don't have to manually adjust my volume knob as the car goes faster/gets louder.

The signal clipping of the RF amp makes the system sound like a wet noodle next to a real system with real power.
Anyone that's familiar with a good aftermarket system knows how strong systems are supposed to sound/feel.

I actually just finished up my install of my 5 channel amp yesterday and the sound is worlds apart from the RF amp.

The RF speakers and sub are pretty decent FYI if you feed them clean real power. Toss that RF amp ASAP.

Oh and n52b30 yeah I was just trying to be clear to the OP about what the problem is. Wasn't trying to be snarky

I admit.... I'm also VERY unhappy w my factory RF system. Sucks I will have to get a new amp for the door speakers though.

Good to hear. What else did you need besides the amp and standard power wiring kit? From what I can tell, there's a lot of proprietary design in there...
