Smile Aftermarket sub and amp question

Justs bought a used evo and it has a aftermarket alpine deck and head unit. the old owner took the sub woofer out (not RF) and left me with two RCA cables and a power cable. Which amp should I get coupled with which sub. I know nothing about sound. Should i get a 10'' or 12''. what amp to power it? can i hook it up easily my self? What about grounding? are the two RCA cables for left and right?

You could get a 10 or 12 or two 10's or two 12's. There are so many brands in stereo equipment I would swing by a stereo shop and listen to some setups they have on display.

I would assume the rca's go to the headunit and are still connected, and the power wire is hopefully not connected to the battery still, or atleast the inline fuse is removed. There are several ground locations in the trunk.

Wicked CAS makes a nice enclosure for the X, and the sell speakers and amps as well, maybe send them pm.

why do you hope that the power wire is not attached to the battery? it could arc out?

but whats needed to sound good. one 10 will do or do i need to go 12 or 2 subs?

a buddy said you need a lot of power to get through from the trunk

Yes, if the power wire touches the bare chassis it will become a welder

1 10" powered by 500 watts sound great, perfect IMO. Larger additional subs and enclosures will give you block rockin bass, it depends on what you want.

Maybe try some youtube videos "500 watt 10" or something.

another thing to take into consideration is the size of the cable. Larger diameter cables will be able to support more power and smaller will suppport less etc. Check what gauge wire was run

the rca's seem to be about 1/4" although there are no numbers written on it. and the power cable maybe an 1/8''. lol power cable is wrapped up with electrical tape. theres a ground to the left of the battery. I'm just going to use this but do i have to use a 3' grounding cable like the guy at future shop told me?

Size of rca cables doesn't really matter because i think they are all the same. Power cable determines how much power you can draw. And 3' is how long my grounding cable is. Gives you some room to determine where you want to ground your cable. I mounted mine to a seatbelt bolt, but then I don't have an evo so I don't know how it'd workout for you.

Just use good quality components or you will end up buying twice.

A nice JL10W3 and a 250W sub will give you more bass than necessary.
