lancer evolution x illumination package
Yes! Thank god someone is trying lol. I've done research and asked, still no one knows how Mitsubishi did it or has put the main fuse for it. I was thinking maybe doing a hardwire to the gauge cluster? That way when you unlock the installed LEDs would turn on but then when you lock the doors it turns off? idk... I'm just trying to find a fuse source that i can tap into to unlock my doors and get power but when i lock them it goes off... Light our map lights/dome lights.
Basically looking for a fuse that doesn't have constant power when the car is off.

If you just want a fuse tap that is off when the car is off, use the one for the radio. It's a 30 amp fuse stock hold plenty of juice. It's green. I forget the number lol, or you can just t-tap off the back of the cigarette lighter. Green is ground yellow is power. I think...double check that tho

Half the wires in the car don't have power when the car is off. They're all over, fuse box, radio harness, everywhere. But you want one that fades in and out with door open and lock/unlock right?? That's what I was looking for. So it's on or off depending on the doors, not the power.

Yes u are correct. I want the one that fades in and out light our map lighrs. Sorry for the confusion.

I could basically just leave them on until I turned the car off.
I did this mod over the last week. I used parts that I bought at the local electronics store. I bought 4 cheap LED strips that already had positive and negative wires connected.
Anyhow if you want them to work with your interior lights (fade in and out when you open the doors) all you really have to do is run wires from the positive and negative wires in the dome light to the positive and negative wires on your LED strips.
I joined the 4 positive wires off the LEDs into one wire and the 4 negative wires into another wire so I had only 2 wires that I had to join up to the positive and negative into the dome lights. You can add a fuse and holder to the positive wire for safety.
I soldered 2 male spade connectors to the each one to the positive and negative on the dome light housing. Please note my posted image was a work in progress photo and I had to bend the pins down and the face into the centre of the dome housing for clearance. The finished version is much neater. You might find an easier/better way to do this, but it worked fine for me.
Also I crimped and soldered all my connectors and covered them with heat shrink. Then I used electrical tape to make a loom.
I did it as safely as possible because I really don't want the interior head lining catching fire! If you do this DO NOT LET THE POSITIVE WIRE CONTACT ANY METAL APART FROM IT'S CONNECTING PIN, USE HEAT SHRINK OR ELECTRICAL TAPE TO INSULATE IT.
I looked for a fuse tap method but I couldn't make that work with a switch. I wanted the switch so I could turn the lights off and on independently of the ceiling lights.
You don't have to do this, but I tried to do this as "properly" as I could and it took me ages. I had to pull out most of the dash and centre console apart because I ran the wires from the seats under the carpet and the front LEDs I ran the wires through the dash to a 3 way switch next to the ASC button.
By doing this I can have the LED footwell lights I installed work with the ceiling lights OR turn them on while the doors are closed OR turn them completely off.
Wish I took more pics during the install but I never expected to do a write up.
I'm actually very happy with the result despite the time it took. Best of luck and hope it helps!

^ damn man, great job. But that seems lile a lot of work when I am hoping their is a easier way. Maybe wiring them up to a certain fuse that turns on when you unlock the doors using the remote and turns off when you turn your car off. I came to the point where I will never find out how Mitsubishi had wired up their lights to fade in and out when unlocking the doors. So now I think the best solution would be to wire the LEDs up to a gauge cluster fusee so it turns on when the cars on and turns off when the cars off. But then again, im uncertain if that is constant power lile the dome lights... if thats the case then I would have to wire the LEDs to a on and off switch and then from the on and off switch to a dome fuse so I can manually turn it off. Idk if the gauges are constantly lowered...
Hey maybe it would be easier if I taped into the gauge cluster? I mean, lets say i dont need it to fade but I need something that gives power when i unlock the doors and turn off when I lock them...? I noticed the information gauge turns on when u unlock the doors. What fuse is that? Gauge cluster?
I could basically just leave them on until I turned the car off.

Gimme a bit I'll post pics
^ yes.. thats the plan im looking for lol. Find that fuse that doesn't have a constant power though so it turns off when the car is off but has power when you hit unlocl on your keychain.
I'll take your advice and stay away from the cluster lol.

You'll have to t-tap a wire for aure
May i ask why it wouldn't be a good idea to tap into the gauge cluster fuse? It seems that is the only visible power that turns on when unlocking the doors and turns off when the car is off.. Have you had a bad experience?
I'm interested in doing this as well. Is it possible to wire it so that you have it fade on/off with locking and unlocking but also have it so that you can have it turn on whenever you want? via a swtich or something?
But first, You and i need to find the answer i have been wanting to know.. how did mitsubishi do this and where is the fuse i can tap into so the LED's im installing fade in and out like the Illumination lights do already.
Okay, so I officially gave up on the fade in and out idea. Now I wanna know.. is their a fuse that is on when the car is on but turns off when the car is turned off? Im not sure if the radio harness is one of them or not.. because I dont want constant power (lile the dome lights have when the car is turned off) I want the power to be restricted off when the car is off. Would that be the radio fuse? Im wiring up 4 LEDs so I may need the 30amps for safety. The dome lights have 15amps. I think I would be fine with that also anyway..
