Guys, do you know if it is possible to install a radio using the stock dash kit and the OEM mounting brackets? I recently had an Alpine iLX-F509 installed into my 2015 MR and I really hate the dash kit from Metra. It is not the material but the fit. I'm not sure what that company was
thinking when the measured the fit. It is much higher where it meets the rest of the dash. My hope is to put back the OEM dash kit and just install the radio with the OEM mounts. The screen on the iLX-F509 will hide the opening in the dash. I'm not sure why I would need a dash kit for something that is hidden by the screen. Unless I am missing a functional reason that you would need to block off the opening?

Thats how I do it with my evo 8 just unscrew the brackets and screw them into the holes you deem right for the look you want. I can't see the x being any different.

 

cool this is what I thought and funny the Alpine manual shows it being able to do this. What bothers me more is I questioned the shop but it seemed no one understood me or likes doing it a certain way. I'm thinking
of changing it back this spring or summer. thanks!!!
