Another Evo X tuned

This customer traveled up from Florida to have a tune. His car had a full turbo-back exhaust, an intake, and aftermarket intercooler hard piping. He also had 50:50 water methanol injection that we tuned for, which helped in power.

This car baselined at 255whp, which is quite high for my dyno. Obviously, on the first two graphs, the red colour lines are stock and the blue colour are post tuning. Of note, it already had the Mitsubishi second reflash and the above mods before starting. Still, we were able to increase power by 50 additional wheel horsepower. I typically see stock Evolution Xs make 210-220whp. So when you note that this car picked up 100whp from a completely stock Evolution X, the result is good, I think.

As you can see, the turbo has completely run out of steam. Even with a spike of 25psi in the middle, Bruce was unable to prevent it from reducing to 16psi by the rev limit. The injector duty cycles were quite high as well, but the tune is very safe. There was no recording of detonation in the several final logs taken. We came to agreement that a larger turbo and injectors would be the next step in the pursuit of power.

I have received critique for the numbers the dyno shows. To appease some of those, I have added a shootout mode run of the car.

Seems like it should hold boost much better. What are you using to control the boost? 16 psi at redline is awful.

It is 19psi at redline and 16psi at the rev limit. We use ecu boost control in the Ecutek reflash tables and see maximum duty cycle in higher rev ranges. We used a manual boost controller in another customer's car, and saw the same effect. The new Evolution turbo does not have quite the performance of the 2006 turbo.

We used ecu boost control and put two additional turns on the turn buckle. I don't like the curve that much, but I can assure you that is all that turbo has in it. Solenoids are 100% duty cycle in the midrange and above 6500. After tightening the actuator the car would spike the boost right around 5500 - 6000 so we had to manipulate the duty cycle tables a bit.

An equivalent of the Evo Power Mods 02 Open Dump maybe??? I've read reports of boost holding steady in the upper rpms with this mod. It could possibly help in this situation too, no?

No
Seriously, whats the point in investing hundreds of dollars in trying to force a turbo to operate outside of it's efficiency range when you could just wait a little longer and put an upgraded / modified turbo on that will stomp all over the stocker.

The only thing we have not tried to date is altering restricter sizes and or bleed pills. Which we are happy to try if the customer requests it.

I didn't know you adjusted the WGA. Glad you saved me the headache, I'm leaving mine alone. This stock turbo is a bit softer than the IX turbo.

No, it went from 255 to 315 with the meth and a tune.

392 is the same tune on the same dyno, but in shootout mode, which makes the dyno read higher for all the people that have tunnel vision.

Read the first post again, this time with some retention.
