ECU and CAN bus pairing?
Hey guys,
Many know the X is expensive and as such, I believe there will be many that want to maximze the chance of retaining their factory warranties.
My question is this:
If I decide to purchase another (spare) ECU, would I be able to remove the original ECU, shelf it, install the replacement ecu and still have a functioning car?
Is there a special pairing process that only the dealer can do?
I ask this because this would allow me to use ecuflash to my hearts desire and yet still be able to restore the vehicle to stock configurations without dealer/Mitsu noticing since the original ECU would not have had numerous flashes resulting in the flash count or check sum being altered.
I thought I read somewhere that a factory ECU was ~$600.00. I don't consider that bad if it helps to retain the warranty.
just thinking of future efforts...for now I'm good

I believe you could do that if you recorded the original ECU's immobiliser code.
YOu would need a tool such as ecuflash or ecutek though.

i know from other vehicles that ecu swapping was only possible by the dealer (acura tsx/mazda6) so they can match the immobilizer coding.

I am by no means an expert, but wasn't there talk about ecuflash and retaining the immobiler code?
If so, I could use ECUFLASH to create an image of the original ecu and then write that image to the spare right?

The image you will make with ECUFlash would be the image of your original ECU with the immobilizer code in it. By using that image you should be able to clone your original ECU. As far as I know, what you are saying shouldn't be a problem.

I am pretty sure the dealer threat of flash counting is still unconfirmed and still just a threat. There is no way they'd know if a private enterprise had flashed it or a dealer anyway.
