How many miles on car before reflashing?

Curious to see how long people waited before any ECU tuning.

i just got my cobb ap and have a appointment with surgeline on march 7th. so i will be getting tuned then. hopefully i'll have less than 10k in miles.

Dyno tuned at 4400, couldn't wait any longer, stock tune sucked, 100 percent happy i tuned.

my pops was dyno tuned at 1500... the minimum they allowed for a tune

You will want to let the motor fully break in due to the change in volumetric efficiency (VE) as the motor settles. The tune will need to change as the VE changes. One way to tell when your motor is mostly broken in, which is kind of cool, is if you have boost gauge. As the rings start to seal the amount of vacuum the engine will pull increases. Once the max vacuum value has stabilized over several hundred miles, the motor is pretty much good to go.

Another way, which is a bit more labor intensive would be to continually perform leak down and compression tests. The values from these tests will continue to improve as the motor breaks in. Once broken in the values will plateau.

If you are wanting to get a tuning solution that has off the shelf maps initially, there is no issue installing the device as soon as you get the car. Either way it is advisable to make sure the motor is fully broken in before pushing the motor hard and/or getting a custom tune.
