Service Engine Soon, running lean

So I noticed yesterday my SES light came on. I had a diagnostic done and it said the car is running lean. The guy never gave me a code, just stated it could be your O2 sensor because it's lean.
I currently have a short ram intake and a catback exhaust as well as the first factory reflash that came out. All of which I've had on the car for at least 10,000 miles now, with no issues. Yesterday I drove about 900 miles from MA to NC and it came on during that long trip.
I guess my question for everyone is that, could driving around like this be detrimental to my car? Do you guys feel this is an issue I need to take care of right away? The car is running fine, I've noticed no difference in power and it still idles better than it did when it was stock. I did a search and found information on anti-foulers, but not sure if I need to take that route. I know that from the factory the car naturally runs rich, I'm just shocked it's gone to the other end of spectrum with such light modding.
Any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You need to get the actual code.

Depending on the code it will help us help you.

When I got the "too lean" code, my exhaust was cracked before the primary o2 sensor (on the downpipe). The first step in the service manual for all too lean codes is to check for exhaust leaks.

I would also verify that your fuel pump is getting the correct voltage. There's at least one other report of a relay going bad making the fuel pump never get kicked into high pressure mode, so the car runs lean.

Since you are so lightly modded I would definitely take it to a dealer.

Definately get the code like GG said...

Too many variables like 02 sensors, leaks... blah blah blah.

I had P0171 "system lean" code myself and was a direct result of the short ram intake. As soon as I put back on the stock air box, my code was gone.

It could be your SRI, and I know you said you have had it on for a while. Maybe the long trip cause enough difference to trigger the cel. I would first buy some MAF cleaner, and clean that as this can't hurt anyway. Then go get the code scanned again and post it up....as others have already said.

Thanks for the advice. I actually removed my MAF and cleaned it a little bit. The SES light when off. I did not disconnect the battery and reset the ECU, so I believe that may have been the issue. I think the long drive triggered something. Hopefully it stays off. Like I said the car is running great, so I don't feel there's any need to panic.

yeah I'm the guy with the relay issue..I can tell you that wasn't it. I am having the exact same issue you are. More than the code you will come back with might be a P1235...are fuel metering.. I changed the relay..that was $40 so when I take it back to AMS. I hope one of the text can find it. I am sure they can, they do nothing but build these cars. If you find out what it is please let me know..cause I can't find out what the problem is on mine.

A few of the intakes on market heavily modify the airflow around the MAF causing the vehicle to improperly meter fuel for the mass of air in the motor. The ECU detects the improper AFR out the tail pipe and attempts to correct for the condition. Once the limit of correction permitted by the ECU is reached (usually around 25%), a system to lean code will be thrown.

A solution to the problem, if it's the intake skewing the fueling, would be a recalibration of the MAF curve or removal of the intake.

Thanks,

Thanks,
or how about a full tune for the intake and exhaust? no?

Which is implied for a MAF curve rescale

How is the off the shelf mapping for the AMS intake coming along. I am really getting tired of the 171 code myself?

Thanks

I believe the AEM will be/is the first to be completed and the AMS will be the second intake calibration.

Cheers,

I thought P1235 was partial throttle overboost? (I've gotten that a couple times since installing my UICP after a tune). 1/2 limp mode at that point.

like rob's brought up, get a tune. it should clear any issues as far as running lean. however, it would help to get the error code first. wanna rule out any sort of malfunction on the components first.

Make sure you did not pop the line off the fuel pressure regulator, you will run lean as crap under boost and the trims will get all jacked up at low load.
