conical cone filter and stock blow off valve...wow

i have an old cone filter i used in my civic and it's not dirty. i put it in and wow. first the blow valve is louder, i mean it's the first time i hear it. i told my self ohhh i have a blow off valve?? so this is the stock blow off valve.this is my first turbo car so im clueless. i put an intake on my civic and pathfinder but with evo it's so obvious there is a huge difference from the the response and the way it sound.

now with the blow off valve im just scared with all the shhh i heard, im not sure if they are just normal. on normal mode while shifting from 4th to 5th gear in between it will make a flutter sound not the usual blow off valve sound but not on sport mode. is this normal?

do you think the k and n drop in will sound the same as the cone filter?

With a drop in filter you wont hear the woosh sound. B\C you are using the stock air box the sound is muffled

Yup, I have the works drop-in. It's a lot louder than I expected.

Makes me wonder how much dust and other crap is flying through this filter if it's really that open.

Mine sounds just like that video at the start, but not that loud. I've never heard the stuttering/fluttering sound at 0:33. That sounded like an aftermarket BOV to me.

OP: What you described are all sounds you should expect from a turbo car with a BOV. However, if you plan on keeping that cone filter on there you'll need to put some kind of shield in place for when you're radiator fans are on. Otherwise your MAF gets grumpy.

+1 I have the WORKS drop-in as well and definitely makes the BOV louder.

I was wondering about the fluttering sound too. Only happens on my wife's mr...not on my gsr. I was assuming it had something to do with how the sst puts load on the engine. My wife hated the sound so we put the stock filter back on to mask the flutter.

Agreed, I have the cosworth drop in and just recently noticed the BOV sound...not too loud though, can only hear it sometimes when I have the window rolled down.

Does your intake just flop around now?

These cars are ridiculously rich stock, that's why just an intake frees so much HP... it's leaning out the A/F ratio.

ak47m203: My AMS intake sound identical to the one in that video. I could replicate all of those sounds with my GSR, even the fluttery ones. Supposedly a drop-in brings the volume of the BPV down, and eliminates the air-sucking whoooshy noise when under medium to full throttle. So, no, it wouldn't sound the same.
