GSR ECU vs. MR ECU
GSR ECU vs. MR ECU
This is just a theroretical question, but it is possible to convert a GSR to an MR or vice-versa, or are the ECUs completely different. I know there would be a lot of mechanical work with the trans swap, etc., but I'm just curious.
The difference between the MR and GSR ROM lies in hex locations 10000 and 30000-60000
.. did a compare between the stock roms and that's what it showed up ..
Looks like it .. but there's another ID for the other ECUs to communicate with the PCM .. this ID can only be coded by mitsubishi .. basically like the immobilizer code .. so you can't just swap ECU and start the car ..
Unless Mitsubishi is blowing smoke up my ****
But I've tested ECU to ECU swap .. can't be started .. maybe .. just maybe

Anyway, there's still a bit to be learned about how this newer CAN system works. On an earlier beta version of ecuflash, something as simple as clearing DTCs would jam up the communication with the OP2.0 and discussing with Colby, he stated the system still was completely understood. Obviously it's been fixed now but we're still learning
Not having done this, I can't provide a definitive answer. But although the ROM can easily be swapped, the VIN number cannot be. It is stored elsewhere on in the ECU, not the same place as the ROM.
At first guess, there may be more work than a simple ROM swap.
