EGT or INTAKE temp

Wondering what in your opinion would be a more useful reading as a tuning tool and EGT or INTAKE temp

EGT taken from exhaust manafold or Intake temp after innercooled?

EGT - this way you know what your engine is doing after the fact. I would also look into getting a wideband.

Its good to monitor EGT's - especially when doing pulls / racing.

+1 on the EGT, you never want to run too hot... Great tuning tool, next to a wideband.

Wideband is the best tuning tool.

EGT is kind of old school, because back in the old days, a wideband in a car was for ballers only or not even possible. Now they're relatively cheap.

I have a 2 stage intake temp guage in my Eclipse and although its interesting, I think of it as just a novelty. It lets me know how effective my intercooler is , which, you can probably guess is more so on a cold day then it is on a hot day. I'm thinking of ditching it because I want to redo my intercooler pipes and I really don't want to drill holes in new pipes for fear of creating one or two extra possible boost leaks.

Thanks much ! Have a wide band, and a Boost, now getting ready to install the EGT, but wasnt sure if it would be better to know the temp prior to or after engine, thanks much might just do all 4.......

We dont tune any AEM car without an AIT Sensor.. EGT IMO reads way to slow.. By the time its too hot its too late.. I prefer 02 sensor and AIT..

The X has a temp sensor on the intake manifold as well as the MAF, now we just need to find the mut addy for that intake sensor.

Pardon my ignorance, I know that the ECU no matter if it is stock or aftermarket uses the Intake temp to make its calculations, but how does it help you while tuning? I ask this because I don't remember, I have done some research into tuning and don't recall the need to monitor AIT. EGT's however are a very good indication of how the engine is operating. Are there no solutions for quick, accurate Exhaust gas temps?

mikes right- EGT responds slow as all hell.

kinda of like a radar detector -- it tells you when to start reaching for your wallet.

From what I know, if you know your AIT (T1) and the pressure in your cylinder during the compression stroke (P1) this tells your ECU how much mass gas mixture is in the cylinder.
Mixture=(P1*V1)/(R*T1)
In which V1 is the volume of you cylinder right before the compression stroke and R is the gas constant of air. The gas mixture is composed of Air, Fuel, and exhaust residual. From there you can find the pressures and temperatures in your engine by relating the compression ratio and specific heat of air to P1, T1, and V1. With those known you can see how much work your engine is doing.

So I have a question, can you log AIT using EvoScan?

zing!

too much beer for lunch :P

MUT46 is the ADC_RAW... ie not scaled

Try MUT11 + 5 bytes for the scaled (x-40) MAT

Where is an EGT probe typically installed? eenie meenie miney mo, in this header runner it will go?

I saw exceptionally hot runners coming from the middle two of a tubular manifold, so maybe pick one of the two?
