Manual Boost Control
Manual Boost Control
Three questions:
1) When a MBC is cranked all the way in, is that the maximum boost possible, or do other methods of boost control allow you to go above this?
2) I still don't know how to tell if my HKS WGA is adjusted correctly. Is there a way to tell, or is it just trial and error on the dyno?
3) I have been asked why my FPRed doesn't hold more boost to redline. First of all, it makes plenty of power, so not sure I need it too, but with the MBC all the way in, it peaks at 31psi, tapering to 21.5psi. If I tighten the WGA, will this increase higher end boost, and what would the downside be?
Thanks!

All the way in is max boost for the setup. Depends on spring, actuator, turbo etc
If you want more boost up top but not any more peak, then you need to go to ECU boost so you can do per-RPM boost control.
The red can hold more for sure. I have a local holding 29psi to cutoff on a Dom2 so far...

So the the WGA will affect boost across the board, as opposed to just allowing it to hold more at a higher RPM?
Will ECU boost work in conjunction with the MBC so it can still be dialed down easily if needed? Also, are you refing to some sort of a upgraded boost-pill setup?

With the red, I would recommend a 3 port solenoid over a boost pill setup if you go the ECU-boost route.
ur mbc is now controlling the boost, not the ecu. i think u should be holding more than 21.5# to red line. tightening the wga will increase the preload.
obviously u r tuned if ur running e-85 and an fp red. check with ur tuner as to these conditions.

holding the boost at 29psi will be of course a big difference than 21.5psi...well it depends if the red can still breathe at that psi and at that rpm range...i'm assuming yes (but i don't have proof of this probably bryan as he has tuned a lot)...but then again i saw your setup i think it will increase your whp if you go the 3port setup and ecu controlled boost...just my .02.. good luck

With the 8/9, was there a big power difference holding the boost like that vs. letting it taper? At some boost/RPM point it must be out of breath and increasing boost doesn't show much gain (??).
